Carrollton Records Lowest Crime Rate in Recent History
Crime in the City of Carrollton saw a general downward trend over the course of 2016 with the lowest total Part I Crimes in recent history.
Part I crimes including robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny theft, and motor vehicle theft all declined in 2016 by an overall 8 percent to 2,786—the lowest in two decades.
Carrollton Police Chief Rex Redden said that while certain types of offenses tend to fluctuate from month to month, the City continues to experience an overall decrease in crime.
“The violent crime rate in neighboring Dallas was very high last year, but we didn’t experience it here in Carrollton,” Redden said. “I believe it to be due to the continued presence of officers on the streets and the active enforcement strategy we have.”
There were four homicides in Carrollton in 2016, two of which were domestic in nature. Carrollton PD has a 100 percent clearance rate on these cases meaning all four were solved.
