Prescription Drug Disposal Event in Carrollton

Post Date:03/15/2017 6:04 PM

drug disposalThe City of Carrollton is participating with the Lewisville ISD in the upcoming DEA Drug Take Back event on April 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hebron Valley Elementary (4108 Creek Valley Boulevard).

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) coordinates a one-day collaborative effort with local agencies to remove potentially dangerous prescription drugs from homes. The public will be able to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction.

Clean out those medicine cabinets. Controlled, non-controlled, and over-the-counter substances may be collected. No questions or requests for identification will be made. Participants may dispose of medication in its original container. All solid dosage pharmaceutical products and liquids in consumer containers will also be accepted. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container.

Intra-venous solutions, injectables, and syringes will not be accepted at the event due to the potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens. However, needles and sharps are collected through the City’s solid waste provider. Waste Management’s At Your Door service can safely dispose of the items by scheduling a pick up from the home at no charge.

If residents require additional means of drug disposal, there are several options available year-round including the Carrollton Police Department jail lobby located at 2025 E. Jackson Road. Acceptable items for the drop box include prescription medication, pills, patches, ointments, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, medication samples, and pet medications. No needles or sharps can be accepted at the PD jail drop box.
