Carrollton Selects Internal Candidate as New Assistant Fire Chief

Vaughan RickyThe City of Carrollton Fire Rescue has selected Battalion Chief Ricky Vaughan as the new Assistant Chief of Operations. He will assume position beginning April 17, taking the place of Gregg Salmi who was promoted to Fire Chief at the beginning of April, replacing Chief John Murphy who retired at the end of March.

“I am proud and honored to have been selected as the new assistant fire chief,” said Vaughan. “I believe the department is moving in the right direction, and I am excited to be a part of it and help take the organization to the next level.”

Vaughan began his career with Carrollton Fire Rescue in January 1995 as a firefighter, and was promoted to Battalion Chief in 2009. He currently lives in Carrollton with his wife of 20 years, Lisa, and his 11-year-old daughter, Olivia.

Vaughan is a veteran Naval Reservist who retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after 22 years. He served in Iraq from 2005 to 2006. He holds an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Protection Technology from El Centro College, a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Emergency Management Administration from West Texas A&M University, and is currently working toward a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Disaster and Emergency Management from Sam Houston State University.

“I am extremely excited to have Ricky Vaughan join our executive team,” said Fire Chief Gregg Salmi. “With over 22 years of service in Carrollton Fire Rescue combined with 22 years of military experience, he brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience to our team. I have the utmost confidence in Ricky’s leadership abilities to help advance our department. He is a true team player who is committed to delivering the best service possible to the citizens and visitors of Carrollton.”
