Post Date:04/19/2017 4:17 PM

The City of Carrollton will join the American Public Works Association (APWA) and communities from all across the nation to honor those who work in professions that provide and maintain public facilities and services during National Public Works Week, May 21 to 27. Public Works plays a vital role in the well-being of the Carrollton community by maintaining and improving the systems and services crucial to the residents’ health, safety, and comfort.

PWW News and UpdatesThis year’s theme, Public Works Connects Us, celebrates the many ways public works connects people together as the cornerstone of civilization by providing, maintaining, and improving the structures and services that assure a higher quality of life for the community. Public works professionals include those who manage water, sewer, public transportation, and waste removal as well as those responsible for maintaining public buildings and grounds. Streets, roads, bridges, and public transportation keep residents linked together from driveway to highway, and clean water and sanitation services keep the City healthy.

“We value our community and the role our crews play in keeping them safe and functioning smoothly,” said Public Works Director John Crawford. “Our goals during this celebratory week are to increase public awareness of the crews’ contributions as well as to enlighten the public about the duties, practices, and goals of these public works professionals.”

As part of National Public Works Week, Carrollton will be holding the annual Public Works Open House & Equipment Rodeo on Thursday, May 25 at the Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free event will feature equipment demonstrations and displays, as well as informational booths highlighting water conservation, stormwater protection, and other programs that show how Public Works contributes to Carrollton’s safety and quality of life. Children with appropriate adult supervision are encouraged to attend and will be allowed to examine the various pieces of equipment.
