Carrollton Announces Winners of Drinking Water Week Poster Contest

In celebration of Drinking Water Week (May 7-13), the City of Carrollton and Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFBISD) held the annual Drinking Water Week poster contest. This year’s theme was “Your Water: To Know It Is To Love It.” Third through fifth grade students unleashed their creative sides in hopes of winning the grand prize. Entries were judged according to originality, artwork, and adherence to the theme of water conservation. One winner and one runner-up were selected.

Poster Contest - 1st PlaceFirst place went to Shivani Sarangam, a third grader at McCoy Elementary and her art teacher, Cristine Wheatley. Sarangam received a $100 gift certificate to the Perot Museum as well as a stuffed triceratops and T-Rex mug from the museum gift shop.

Runner-up went to Blanton Elementary fourth grader Daniela Estrada, a fourth grader at Blanton Elementary and her teacher, Quynh Tran, who teaches ESL at the school. Estrada received a $50 gift certificate to the Perot Museum as well as a stuffed triceratops and T-Rex mug from the museum gift shop.

The winning students’ teachers also received a gift card to Target to use toward school supplies.

“The City of Carrollton Public Works Department is excited by the level of participation and quality of entries in this year’s poster contest,” said Alexis Ackel, Water Resource Management Specialist. “The enthusiasm for water conservation shown by the CFBISD elementary students was simply amazing.” 

For more than 35 years, the American Water Works Association and its members have celebrated Drinking Water Week – a unique opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to join together in recognizing the importance water plays in our daily lives.
