Oak Hills Splash Park Now Open

Post Date:05/10/2017 3:53 PM

Resident children anxiously waited for Mayor Matthew Marchant and City Councilmembers to cut the ceremonial ribbon Saturday, officially opening the newly constructed Oak Hills Splash Park. Moments later, water began erupting from the play area’s different sprayers, cannons, and spigots as the kids dashed to play in the City’s second community spray park.

Kids playing at Oak Hills Splash ParkFamilies packed the park and enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of lively music, hot dogs, chips, and drinks. Sheltered from the May sun under the newly constructed shade structure, parents watched their little ones splash and slide in the new state-of-the-art water playground.

“It was wonderful having beautiful weather at the grand opening,” said Parks and Recreation Director Scott Whitaker. “Our community members were able to enjoy not only the newly-opened splash pad, but also the existing playground, volleyball court, and pavilion. It truly was a family-friendly day out in Carrollton.”

In September 2016, Carrollton City Council unanimously voted to approve a contract with Vortex International to begin design and construction on the second community spray park.

Funds totaling $550,000 approved in the 2013 bond election were used to build the new park and its features. An additional $400,000 was budgeted by the City for park equipment, utilities, and for more than 40 new parking spaces that were added to reduce traffic congestion and street parking.

The splash park is open from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. daily.  No activation is required as the water features will run continuously during operational hours. The pavilion, tables, and any shaded areas are all first come, first served. No space is available to rent at this facility.
