Carrollton Public Library Hosts 12 Days of Winter Break
The kids will need activities to keep them busy during the winter break, so bring them to the Carrollton Public Library for 12 days of Winter Break festivities. Different activities will be featured every day from Tuesday, December 26 through Sunday, January 7 at both the Josey Ranch Lake location (1700 Keller Springs Road) and the Hebron & Josey location (4220 N. Josey Lane).
From holiday-themed arts and crafts to yoga to a Harry Potter Yule Ball, there’s something for children of all ages and interests. The fun won’t stop until the kids head back to the classroom the second week of January. Both Libraries are closed December 24 & 25 and January 1.
Snowman Scavenger Hunt – December 26
Do you want to build a snowman? Come on out to Hebron & Josey Library on Tuesday, December 26 from 6-9 p.m. Scavenge the Kids’ Place for the parts you’ll need for your new frozen friend. For ages 6+.
Make a Bird Feeder – December 27
Create a pinecone feeder and make the season merry for our flying friends, too. Join the fun on Wednesday, December 27 from 2-3 p.m. at Josey Ranch Lake Library for this crafty event. For ages 6+.
Make Kwanzaa Instruments – December 28
Celebrate the start of Kwanzaa by making an instrument at the Hebron & Josey Library on Thursday, December 28 from 2-3 p.m. Create a drum and take it home to play for family and friends. For ages 6+.
Harry Potter Yule Ball – December 29
Attention Harry Potter fans of all ages! Attend Carrollton’s very own Yule Ball inspired by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire complete with dancing, door prizes, trivia, and a scavenger hunt on Friday, December 29 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Josey Ranch Lake Library. Semi-formal wear, formal wear, or wizarding robes are highly encouraged.
Yoga for Kids – December 30
Get the kids out of the house and active this Winter Break with a free yoga class at Hebron & Josey Library on Saturday, December 30 from 2-3 p.m. A local yoga instructor will take the kids through the basic poses to stretch out their muscles. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle. For ages 6+.
New Year’s Eve Party – December 31
Get ready to ring in the New Year with a party created just for kids at Josey Ranch Lake Library on Sunday, December 31 from 2-3 p.m. Celebrate through poems, songs, games, and puzzles. Kids will even have the chance to set their own resolutions as they count down the hours to 2018. For ages 6+.
Art & Movie: Tangled – January 2
Continue Winter Break with the animated adventure, Tangled (2010), on a big screen at Josey Ranch Lake Library on Tuesday, January 2 at 1 p.m. Watch as the magically longhaired Rapunzel, who has spent her whole life in a tower, meets the kingdom’s most-wanted bandit Flynn Ryder and goes on the adventure of a lifetime. Create a Tangled art project and sport fun glitter tattoos. For all ages.
Bilingual Story Time – January 3
Ezra Jack Keats’ book The Snowy Day will be read to kids in both English and Spanish at Josey Ranch Lake Library on Wednesday, January 3 from 2-3 p.m. Hear the tale of a boy named Peter experiencing the joy of the first snowfall of the season. Kids will then get to paint their own beautiful snow scenes. For ages 3-8.
Zooflakes: Paper Animal Snowflakes – January 4
If you love animals and making crafts, then this is the event for you. Create a beautiful paper snowflake in the shape of a zoo animal at Hebron & Josey Library on Thursday, January 4 from 2-3 p.m. For ages 6+.
Board Game Day – January 5
Bring the whole family for an afternoon of friendly competition at Josey Ranch Lake Library on Friday, January 5 from 2-3 p.m. All the classics will be on hand, as well as new games to try. All ages are welcome.
Finger Knitting – January 6
Looking for a new hobby? Finger knitting could be just what you need! Learn how on Saturday, January 6 from 2-3 p.m. at Josey Ranch Lake Library. Start work on a beautiful scarf to keep or give to a friend. No needles are required. For ages 6+.
Blizzard! Story & Make a Snow Globe – January 7
Hear the true story of a little boy that saved his town during a blizzard in John Rocco’s book Blizzard! at Hebron & Josey Library on Sunday, January 7 from 3-4 p.m. Make a cool snow globe to take home and put on display as a fun winter decoration. For ages 6+.
