2018 Run_for_Rover_iconPre-Registration for Carrollton’s 2nd Annual Run for Rover closes this Monday, February 12. This furry 5K benefitting our four legged friends will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 8:30 a.m at McInnish Dog Park (2241 Sandy Lake Road).

Sign up your pup for a dog-specific race supporting the Carrollton Animal Services & Adoption Center. The City is excited to offer this race to walkers, runners, and their dogs, directing all proceeds to the animals at the center. Come to “run wild” and watch as these doggies dash for the finish line.

The race will start at McInnish Dog Park and will route through the adjacent sports complex for a full 5K. A shorter fun run/walk route will be offered to smaller or older dogs, or dogs who are still working off some holiday weight. Don't have a dog? You can still participate. Or even better, swing by the Adoption Center (2247 Sandy Lake Road) where your new best friend is waiting for you.

“Run for Rover will raise money for a great cause and simultaneously promote wellness within our community,” said Athletics Manager Kim Bybee.

Pre-register by this Monday, February 12 to receive the $25 rate for the 5K or $15 rate for the Fun Run/Walk for humans and the $8 rate for dogs. Pre-Registration guarantees a race T-shirt, race bag, and timing chip for humans. A special gift will also be given to all dogs who are registered early. The prices increase by $5 for humans and $2 for dogs on race day.

Run for RoverThis parade of canines is an effort to continually build awareness and resources for the animals in Carrollton’s community. The City advocates for healthy pet ownership and encourages those who are able to provide homes to the animals.

Animal Services Manager Carl Shooter said he’s thankful for those who came out in support of the race’s inaugural year and hopes to see even more people at the finish line this year.

“We are hopeful that even more community members will partner with us to save the animals in our care,” Shooter said. “Your participation creates opportunities for animals to become family pets that they may not get otherwise.”

Packet pick-up will be Thursday, February 15 from noon to 8 p.m. and Friday, February 16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Rosemeade Recreation Center (1330 E. Rosemeade Parkway).

Awards for the 5K will be given to overall male and female winners, and medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age category. The overall dog and top three dog finishers will also receive awards.

There will be plenty of playtime, treats, giveaways, and water after the run.  Pet photo cover 2018 Prince
