Carrollton Public Library Hosts Spring Break STEAM Fair
The Carrollton Public Library will hold the first annual Spring Break STEAM Fair on Friday, March 16 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road). The free event will provide hands-on experiments for ages 6-12 from UT-Dallas, the Perot Museum Tech Truck, and Schneider Electrics. No registration is required, and parents are welcome to join in the fun.
The idea behind STEAM fairs is to expand the creativity of all ages, from toddlers to school children, teens/tweens to adults. The concept originally titled, “STEM” was designed to encourage more children to go into professions in science, technology, engineering, and math. The “A” has been added to cover the liberal arts and craft-making.
The fair will be come-and-go, with stations that have experiments and activities for kids. Each of the hands-on, inquiry-based activities involved will allow participants to boost their knowledge, increase their imagination, and inspire new ways to integrate the five disciplines into their everyday lives.
There will be kits to assemble, circuits to investigate, and mazes to build. The event will also host the Perot Museum TECH Truck (Tinker, Engineer, Create, and Hack). The “hack” aspect means taking a project, seeking a solution, and making it your own, rather than following a set guideline or methodology. Bring the whole family!
