Post Date:04/11/2018 2:23 PM

Celebrate moms with family and friends on Saturday, May 12 with a concert from 5-7 p.m. on the A.W. Perry Museum grounds (1509 N. Perry Road) in the beautiful Pearl Perry Gravley Park and listen to sounds of the New Horizons Dixie Swing Band from the front porch of the historic home. Mothers-Day-Image

Come early and bring blankets, lawn chairs, and a picnic basket of food for the entire family. Admission is free and ice cream and lemonade will be provided. Create a theme for your picnic gathering and enter the annual Mother’s Day Picnic Contest. Themes are limited only by your imagination. Registration for the contest begins at 4 p.m. and judging takes place at 4:45 p.m. Winners will be announced at the beginning of the concert.

Children can make a card for mom and there will be a Victorian-style craft for kids and the young at heart.

Museum Curator Cody Scallions said last year more than 130 people came to celebrate moms of all ages.

“The Perry Homestead is a quaint location perfect for the ‘down home’ feeling of our Mother’s Day Concert with the band playing on the veranda and families picnicking in the front yard,” Scallions said. “There’s nothing better than enjoying ice cream, lemonade, and good music with family in a Carrollton park.”

The A.W. Perry Homestead Museum offers a glimpse of life as it was in north central Texas at the turn of the 20th century. A.W. and Sarah (Huffman) Perry were pioneer homesteaders of Peters Colony who came to Carrollton in 1844 from Carrollton, Illinois. They claimed 640 acres and built a house on the farmland in 1857. The structure that is now the Museum was restored in 1976 for the U.S. bicentennial and sits on a 12-acre site designated a historic landmark in 1977 by the Texas Historical Commission.
