Carrollton Old Denton Phase II Construction Finishes Ahead of Schedule

Post Date:05/17/2018 9:38 AM

Phase II of the Old Denton Road reconstruction which began in April 2017 will finish almost two months ahead of schedule. Motorists started using all six lanes as of Wednesday evening. Some minor work will still require temporary closures of one lane at a time, but barricades will be removed by the end of each work day. The full completion date is set for Friday, May 25.

Old-Denton-Completed-Early“We are excited to be completing the Old Denton Road project nearly two months ahead of schedule,” said City of Carrollton Engineering Director Cesar Molina. “The project had a lot of challenges especially working in front of Creekview High School and maintaining access for more than 2,000 students. The end result is a roadway that provides a smoother and more aesthetically pleasing ride, improved capacity at the intersections, and improved lighting.”

Running the length of Old Denton Road from Frankford Road to Rosemeade Parkway, the project is approximately one mile long and includes new lanes of pavement, turn lanes, sidewalks, bridge amenities, LED street lights, landscaping, irrigation, as well as other miscellaneous improvements. The Phase II construction was originally expected to take 15 months and ultimately only took a little over 13. Tiseo Paving Company performed the work.

“The completion of this section of Old Denton is the culmination of three projects that stretches from Whitlock Lane to Rosemeade Parkway and should provide the City with many years of service that will be enjoyed by all who use it,” said City of Carrollton Capital Improvements Project Manager Tom Geier. “I think I can say for everyone in the City that it will be nice to see Old Denton Road without any barricades and construction vehicles on it for years to come.”

City Council has approved an order for improvements to the Old Denton Road at Hebron Parkway intersection to be completed by the Tiseo Paving Company as an addition to the Old Denton Road Pavement Improvements Project (from Frankford to Rosemeade). These improvements include new through and turn lanes at the intersection, which has had traffic capacity issues for some time.

This additional work will begin spring 2018, as part of the ongoing project that began on April 17, 2017, and has a 15-month completion schedule with an expected completion of approximately mid-July 2018.

Additional details about the Old Denton Road Phase II project can be found below.

Old Denton Phase II Proceeding Ahead of Schedule

Old Denton Phase II, which includes reconstruction of Old Denton Road between Frankford Road and Rosemeade Parkway, is in progress and trending ahead of schedule.  The project began on April 17, 2017 and has a 15 month completion schedule with an expected completion of approximately mid-July 2018.  The two outside southbound lanes and two outside northbound lanes have been completed.  Work is beginning on the inside two lanes.  During this time, two lanes in each direction are scheduled to remain open; however, there will be times when only one lane is open. Crews will aim to avoid these additional lane closures during rush hours, but delays are still expected. The City asks drivers to be cautious in these work zones, and be aware of workers and speed limits. During the construction, the speed limit has dropped to 35 mph, reduced from the usual 40 mph.

Please continue to be mindful of the construction area as workers improve this high-traveled area.  The project is approximately one mile long and includes six new lanes of pavement, new turn lanes and sidewalks, bridge amenities, LED street lights, landscaping and irrigation, and other miscellaneous improvements. Residents are advised to take alternate routes during construction to avoid unexpected delays. Tiseo Paving Company is performing the work. Northbound (NB) traffic on Old Denton Road has been shifted to the middle lanes and paving for the new lanes is underway. The new NB lanes are expected to be completed and open to traffic in late October. The intersection at Raleigh Drive will be closed from Monday, October 23 to Monday, October 30 and the entire area will be poured in one phase which should complete NB lane work. During this time, Raleigh Drive traffic will be detoured to Kimberly Drive and then to Derby Run. When the intersection is reopened, NB traffic will be shifted to the new lanes and construction will begin on the inside southbound and northbound lanes and median. Residents are advised to take alternate routes during construction to avoid unexpected delays. The City asks drivers to be cautious in these work zones, and be aware of workers and speed limits.
