"Throughout the history of literature, the guy
who poisons the well has been the worst of all villains...."

In its ongoing effort to keep its
employees and the public informed about stormwater issues, the City
of Carrollton introduces the "Stormwater
Reader", a biannual newsletter providing news and
information on the fast paced world of stormwater management.
Each issue will be filled with timely and seasonally relevant
material to help you do your part to clean up our environment and
reduce non-point source pollution. |

Viewing the environment as a single entity - one that includes soils,
waters, plants, animals, and humans - means that we are all joined together as
one community. We are connected to the land and depend on it for our
survival. The degradation of one part of the land community impacts the others.
We have the awesome power to alter, manipulate, abuse, and destroy...but we
also have the capacity to restore, protect and preserve. The health of our
natural resources is a reflection of how we care for the environment and
ultimately how we care for ourselves. We are stewards of the earth's resources,
which we have on loan from our children. As a member of the environmental
community, we all share in the responsibility to care for it. We need your
help. Are you in?
The goal of this site is to provide you with information
about sources of pollution, the impacts on the environment, and ways you can
reduce your pollution contribution. |

What is nonpoint source pollution? Nonpoint source (NPS) pollution
occurs when water runs over the land or through the ground picking up
contaminants, like bacteria, oil, detergent, pesticides and dirt. These
pollutants come from a variety of sources including our roads, lawns,
construction sites and even the atmosphere. Unlike sanitary sewers, polluted
stormwater runoff doesn't receive any treatment before it's washed into our
creeks, rivers and lakes. NPS pollution can seriously impact our drinking water
supplies, recreation, fish and wildlife. It's the leading cause of most of
today's water quality problems. |
