Bulk waste, brush and yard waste

Weekly collection of brush (tree trimmings, limbs and branches) and bulk waste (items too large for your green roll-out container, including bagged or boxed material) is provided on your regular collection day. Limits do apply to these collections:

  • Brush or limbs will be collected if no more than 4 feet in length and in bundles weighing no more than 40 pounds.

  • Bulk waste includes items too large to fit inside your green roll-out container. Boxes or bags weighing up to 50 pounds will be collected.

  • Yard waste (grass clippings or leaves) can be bagged in plastic or paper bags and added to your green roll-out container for collection. Bags weighing up to 50 pounds will be collected if placed curbside. (Tip: Participate in the “Don’t Bag It” program by leaving mulched leaves and clippings on your lawn to return nutrients to the soil.)

According to city ordinance, residential waste shall be placed at the location designated by the city no earlier than 6:00 p.m. of the evening before and no later than 6:30 a.m. of the collection day. Do not block or impede a street or alley right-of-way, water or gas meter, drainage ditch, sight triangle at an intersection or sidewalk. Improperly placed waste will not be collected.

Practices for Safe, Efficient Collection

  • Brush (tree trimmings, limbs and branches) and bulk waste (items too large for your green roll-out container including bagged or boxed material) will be collected weekly. All limbs must be cut into 4-foot lengths and placed in bundles not exceeding 40 pounds. Bulk items must be placed in boxes not exceeding 50 pounds for safe, manageable collection.

  • Order an additional 95-gallon green roll-out cart for grass clippings, small brush and extra household trash by calling 972-422-2341. It’s only $1.60 per month.

  • Residential waste (trash, recycling and bulk waste) must be set out for the weekly collection service no earlier than 6:00 p.m. of the evening before and no later than 6:30 a.m. on the collection day. City Ordinance

  • Commercial tree trimming and landscaping services must haul away large limbs, rent a dumpster, or cut and bundle brush into 4-foot lengths and stack them at the front curb for safe, manageable collection. Property owners are responsible for ensuring proper disposal procedures. Avoid collection delays and additional fees. Grass clippings can be put in plastic bags and placed inside roll-out containers. Bulk waste must not be set out for collection too early. City Ordinance

  • Property owners are responsible for ensuring that contractors properly discard construction debris. This waste may not be picked up as residential bulk waste on regular collection days. Rental dumpsters are available (see below). Fence panels may be collected if they are broken into small sections and stacked at the curb.

  • Automated collection trucks cannot collect improperly placed roll-out carts. Carts must be placed at least 3 feet away from gas meters, fences, power lines, mailboxes, water meters and parked vehicles. City Ordinance

  • Yard clippings must not be swept or blown into storm sewers.  State Regulation and City Ordinance

  • Leaves and grass clippings may be placed in green trash containers.

  • Place all recyclables into blue carts. No presorting is necessary. Do not bundle or place newspapers in plastic bags.

  • Ask appliance delivery services to haul away and discard old appliances.  Refrigerants must be removed from old air conditioners and refrigerators, etc. by a certified technician and have a state-approved ‘clean’ tag attached to the discarded appliance before it can be set out and collected as safe bulk waste. City Ordinance
