How
do I start or stop residential trash collection service?
Solid waste service to residents is initiated or terminated in
conjunction with your water service through the city of Carrollton.
Contact Utility Customer Service at 972-466-3120 or visit City Hall at
1945 E. Jackson Road at Josey Lane between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to
start or stop service. |

What

Where
do I pay my bill?
Monthly bills
may be paid by mail, in person or after hours at City Hall or by bank
draft. Automatic bank drafting service allows residential customers to
have their monthly bill paid automatically from their checking or
savings account. Visit Carrollton City Hall at 1945 E. Jackson Road at
Josey Lane to pay bills in person or leave payments in the after hours
drop box.

Where do I place items?
Place all items at least 3 feet away from other containers, brush or
bulk waste, mailboxes, gas meters, fences, parked cars, overhead
obstacles and any other items. Do not block or impede a street or
alley right-of-way, water or gas meter, drainage ditch, intersection
or sidewalk. Improperly placed waste may not be collected.
When do I place
items for collection?
According to city ordinance, residential waste shall be placed at the
location designated by the city no earlier than 6:00 p.m. of the
evening before and no later than 6:30 a.m. of the collection day. |

How do I manage big bulky items?
Items too large to fit into the green roll-out container are considered BULK
WASTE. Place these items at your front curb at least 3 feet from other
containers, mailboxes, gas meters, fences, parked cars, overhead
obstacles and any other items. Items--including leaves or grass
clippings--may be placed in plastic or paper
bags or in boxes but each bag or box should not weigh more than 50
pounds.

How much brush or bulk waste will be collected?
Brush (tree trimmings, limbs and branches) and bulk waste (items too
large for green roll-out containers, including bagged or boxed
material) will be collected weekly on customers' regular collection
day. All limbs must be cut into 4-foot lengths and placed in bundles
not exceeding 40 pounds to fit in a rear-end loader truck. Bulk
items should be placed in boxes not exceeding 50 pounds for safe,
manageable collection. Click

How can I discard appliances?
Appliances are considered bulk waste and should be placed at the front
curb. If the appliance previously contained a refrigerant, such as an
air conditioner or refrigerator, the refrigerant must be removed by a
certified technician and a state-approved ‘clean’ tag attached to the
appliance prior to collection. Instructions

What can I recycle?
Place any of the following items in your blue recycling cart:

aluminum and
steel/tin cans (no foil or aluminum pans)

jars of any color (rinse containers and discard lids)

Do
I need to sort my recyclables?
Do not sort recyclables. Simply place all items into the
blue recycling cart. Do not place items in plastic bags, except for
shredded paper.
How
do I dispose of cardboard boxes?
Flatten cardboard and place in your blue
recycling cart.
How
do I recycle newspapers?
Place
newspapers into the blue recycling cart. DO NOT BUNDLE NEWSPAPERS or place in plastic bags.
When
are my recyclables picked up?
Recyclables are collected from your blue
cart every other week on the same collection day as your
trash. To determine
your recycling collection schedule, first
locate your
neighborhood on the Carrollton map and note the blue or yellow
color. Recyclables will be collected on your
regular trash day on the color-coded weeks shown on the
Recycling
Calendar.

When is my trash collected?
Trash is collected weekly from your green cart. Call Allied Waste at 972-422-2341
to determine your scheduled collection day. Recyclables are
collected from your blue cart on the same day of the week, but only on designated weeks.

When are my recyclables picked up?.
Residential waste
must be placed at the location designated by the city no earlier than
6:00 p.m. of the evening before and no later than 6:30 a.m. on the
collection day. Collection of recyclables is
no longer weekly.
Will holidays delay the schedule?
Collections will not be made on New Year's day, Memorial Day,
Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas day.
Collections normally scheduled for these days will be picked up the
following day and collections for the remaining days in the week will
be delayed by one day through Saturday. Example: If a holiday falls on Thursday,
Thursday routes will be collected on Friday and Friday routes will be
collected on Saturday.
Will
bad weather delay my trash collection?
Yes, bad weather, such as sleet, may delay your trash collection but
all collections will be made as soon as possible. |

How much trash can I set out?
The amount of residential brush or bulk waste is not limited. If you
have more garbage than fits into a green roll-out container, you can
request an additional container by calling Allied Waste at
972-422-2341. |

How do I report missed collections?
Report missed collections to Allied Waste at
972-422-2341.
I
placed trash out for collection, why wasn’t it picked up?
Missed
collections can often be
due to items being set out too late on the collection day or
placed improperly, including too close to other objects or blocked by
things such as a
parked vehicle. Remember that holidays and inclement weather can delay
collections. Report missed collections to Allied Waste at
972-422-2341 or at Allied
Waste Services' web site..

Can I take items to a landfill?
Carrollton residential customers may take one load per month (one
pick-up truck load or one small trailer load up to 3 cubic yards) to
Lewisville Landfill on Saturdays between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00
p.m. for a $5 fee. At the landfill residents must present both a Texas
driver’s license AND a city utility bill with a matching address. This
service is available for residential, not commercial, customers.

How can I dispose of hazardous waste such
as paints or chemicals?
Hazardous waste is not collected as part of your weekly
residential service. Carrollton citizens may take household hazardous
waste to the Home Chemical Collection Center at 11234 Plano Road,
Dallas. Call 214-553-1765 for directions, hours and accepted items.

disposal of hazardous wastes. Dried
paint (including paint that has been dried using an agent such as
cat litter) is allowed in regular trash. |

Do
I need to place items in bags?
Items--including leaves or grass
clippings--may be placed in plastic or paper bags for collection and placed
at least 3 feet away from your green trash cart, blue recycling cart,
brush, mailboxes, gas meters, fences, parked cars, overhead obstacles
and any other items. Each bag or box should not weigh more than 50
pounds.
How do I get an additional green trash
cart?
To
help residents manage their household trash, an additional green trash
cart is only $1.60 per month. Contact Allied Waste at 972-422-2341 to request
additional containers. |

Are there local donation options for usable items?
Donations of gently
used furniture, household items, clothing and computers are accepted
by the Metrocrest Thrift Store, 1103 S. Josey Lane, #114 at Belt
Line Road. Call 972-418-1900 or visit

regarding tax-deductible donations, store hours or to schedule a
pick up. The Metrocrest Thrift Store is operated by Metrocrest
Social Services, a United Way affiliate serving Carrollton, Farmers
Branch, Addison, Coppell, and area code 75287 in southern Denton

agencies that accept donations of usable items. |
