West Nile Virus Updates 2016 LATEST UPDATE: August 23, 2016.

The West Nile Virus hotline (972-466-3202) has been updated with the following script:

“You have reached the City of Carrollton West Nile Virus Hotline where you can find the latest information on West Nile Virus activity in our community. Today is Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Each week mosquitoes samples will be collected from 7 of our 14 sites. These samples are submitted to Dallas County Health Department to determine if the collected mosquitoes are positive for West Nile virus. Three of the samples collected last week tested positive for West Nile virus. These samples were collected in mosquito management areas 1B, 2B and 5B. You may view our map of these sites on our website at www.cityofcarrollton.com/westnile. As a result we will be spraying these areas the evenings of August 24th and 25th, weather permitting. Please remember that we are also providing free mosquito dunks at our Animal Shelter and our Senior Center. This hotline will be updated again on Tuesday, August 30th . The West Nile Virus hotline (972-466-3202) has been updated with the following script:

“You have reached the City of Carrollton West Nile Virus Hotline where you can find the latest information on West Nile Virus activity in our community. Today is Tuesday, August 16, 2016. Each week mosquitoes samples will be collected from 7 of our 14 sites. These samples are submitted to Dallas County Health Department to determine if the collected mosquitoes are positive for West Nile virus. None of the sample collected during this cycle tested positive for West Nile virus. Although we had no positive samples this week, it is still very important to protect yourself when outdoor by following the 4 Ds. Dress in long sleeves and pants, Defend yourself with an approved repellent, limit activity at Dusk and Dawn and Drain standing water. Please remember that we are also providing free mosquito dunks at our Animal Shelter and our Senior Center. This hotline will be updated again on Tuesday, August 23rd. Each week mosquitoes will be collected from seven of these sites and the following week the next seven will be tested. You may view our map of these sites on our website at www.cityofcarrollton.com/westnile. This series of samples were collected last Friday and the results of one of these tests were positive for West Nile virus. The positive sample was collected in area 7B, bordered by Broadway Street, Belt Line Road, Josey Lane and Valwood Parkway. We will be spraying this area the evenings of June 15th and 16th. We are also providing free mosquito dunks at our Animal Shelter and our Senior Center. Please remember that we are only able to provide one package per resident, while supplies last. This hotline will be updated again on Tuesday, June 21st. This is the first update of the 2016 mosquito season. This year we will continue to monitor 14 fixed testing sites. Each week mosquitoes will be collected from seven of these sites and the following week the next seven will be tested. The first series of samples were collected last Friday and the results of these tests were negative for West Nile virus.
