AMO Volleyball covers all aspects of the game for athletes at any level. We pride ourselves in providing experienced coaches who are able to give personalized instruction, high intensity, and FUN! Our goals for each camp are to teach the fundamental aspects of the game (physical, technical, mental, and emotional), emphasize efficiency, correct technique, and increase volleyball knowledge in order to enhance each individual player.

Nick Barrows

Bowmen Sports Camps and Clinics

Nick has been involved with summer sports camps and clinics for eight years and has experience as a coach, head coach, director and owner.

He is the varsity women's head basketball coach at Westlake Academy and has coached there for six years where he's had 180 career wins. They are the 2010 State Champions and Nick was named the TCAF 2010 Coach of the Year. His teams have earned five regional championships and have been district champs six years running at both the JV and Varsity levels. As a guest coach at the University of Kansas Summer Basketball Camp, he coached 800 kids at a single week-long camp. Nick has also coached football, baseball and soccer at Junior High, Junior Varsity and Varsity levels. Hundreds of players each summer take the summer Bowmen camps.

The goal at Bowmen Sports Camps and Clinics is to get children excited about sports! Hitting golf balls or shooting lay-ups, learning the rules is just a small part of the process. They have hundreds of drills and skills sets that are super fun and keep players in the game. They want them to leave with a healthy appreciation for team sports while in a fun, active and positive environment.

Meredith Buckley attended Texas Woman's University and is passionate about teaching children and allowing them to grow and learn at their own pace. She has incredible patience and enjoys helping children develop a love of learning. She has experience working in daycare facilities, as well as homeschooling her five children. Other experience includes coaching a recreational youth cheerleading squad for three years, coaching a youth basketball team and teaching children's classes at her church.

All Stars classes encourage a love of learning while preparing children for kindergarten. Students learn to recognize letters and learn their sounds, write their names, read sight words and begin to read. Children also participate in circle, calendar, science, math, geography and gym time. These classes allow children to develop social skills and make new friends. Preschool Math classes focus exclusively on math skills such as counting, one-to-one correspondence, number recognition, categorizing, patterns, shapes, graphing and measuring. Skills are taught through active play, fun games, role-playing real life situations and a book of the day. You won't find any flash cards or math worksheets in this class. Preschool Science classes promote curiosity and help develop beginning science skills, such as observing, measuring, predicting and classifying. Children learn to form hypotheses and then try out their ideas. Each topic includes a book, hands-on activities and real science experiments.

Cristina Campo

Cristina is a certified Aerobics Instructor for over 30 years and a Personal Trainer for 25 years. She is currently certified by AFAA in Group Exercise, Step Reebok and Personal Training. She also received additional training in Hip Hop from Planet Funk, Yoga from AFAA and Tribal Fusion Belly Dance. In June 2017, she completed her 200hr Yoga Teacher certification from Yoga Alliance.  

Cristina enjoys teaches a variety of class formats including Step, Strength Training, Interval, Hip Hop, Latin Fusion, Tribal Fusion and Traditional Belly Dance, Yoga and Aqua Aerobics.  She is currently teaching “Step, Strength & Core” on Thursdays at the Rosemeade Recreation Center. This class balances step cardio intervals with upper body strength and wraps up with core conditioning for a very efficient use of your time.

Cristina loves to encourage and inspire others to improve their health and fitness levels with fun and motivational workouts.

Chad Deaver, owner of Fugitive Fitness, has introduced countless kids, teens, and adults to Parkour and natural, functional movement both at the Parkour gym and in Carrollton. With both breadth and depth of natural and functional movement knowledge, he can provide the best ideas from a variety of sources to improve your movement and preserve your mobility. Having a personal relationship with the founders of the discipline themselves, he brings their original vision of physical, mental, and emotional growth through progression, hard work, and discipline to the training.  Chad is a certified Crossfit Trainer and World Freerunning and Parkour Federation instructor, and holds certifications from the Cooper Institute, ADAPT, and MovNat.

 Parkour is the disciple of training the body to move from one place to another, safely and in the most efficient manner possible for the situation using movements like running, jumping, swinging, vaulting, and rolling. We take each movement from the ground up at the individual’s pace, so it will be applicable to life but feel like play. It takes focus, commitment, discipline, and a lot of hard work to become completely comfortable moving your body in every possible way. You will have your body forever, and you only get one, so we’d like to show you how to make it work well.

Russ Gold 

Private Guitar Lessons

Russ Gold has been playing the guitar since 1969 and teaching since 1971. He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from North Carolina School of the Arts and has also attended New England Conservatory of Music and Southern Methodist University. He has performed concerts on stage, radio and television in various parts of the United States. He has been teaching at Rosemeade Recreation Center since 1989.

Students learn any style of music, learn music reading, scales, improvisation, music theory and how to learn songs from recordings. Lessons are ongoing and meet Tuesdays, Fridays or Saturdays.

Jan Guinn

Jan has been a dedicated Yoga practicioner for several years. She is a certified Yoga, Pilates and Group Exercise instructor. She has also been certified as a Silver Sneakers instructor which qualifies her to teach exercise classes to seniors. Classes focus on improving strength, flexibility and balance, along with increasing range of motion. Her Aging Gracefully Yoga™ and Stretch classes at the Carrollton Senior Center are specially designed to meet the needs of older adults.

Scott lived in the Washington DC area where his love for food began in his teens and his mentors were Julia Child, Jacques Pépin and Jean Louis Palladin.  Chef Scott sits as a member of the Dallas Coalition for the Prevention of Childhood Obesity, the Healthcare Commission of Collin County and on the program advisory board for Remington College School of Culinary Arts. Chefsville offers service learning opportunities to Remington College students, students of Collin County Community College, Le Cordon Bleu, El Centro, and The Art Institute of Dallas. Chef Scott lives in Texas with wife Sarah and his children, Christopher, Dorian, Timothy and Chelsea.

Joanna Jordan

Joanna graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from the University of North Texas and is certified in Pilates. She has been performing professionally, choreographing and teaching since 1996. She teaches and performs many styles of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip-hop, contemporary, drill and lyrical.

Dance has many benefits. It helps improve coordination, balance, flexibility and memory. Allow yourself to escape into the world of dance and improve technique or find your style. Various class combinations are offered for children age 3 to adults. Classes range from beginning to advanced levels. Private lessons are also offered.

Swami Dev Singh Khalsa

Swami Dev Singh Khalsa began practicing Kundalini Yoga under the guidance of Indian Master Yogi Bhajan in 1974 and began teaching in 1976. Director of the Dallas 3HO Toha Center, he has also taught at North Carolina School of the Arts, Eastfield College, the Healing Springs Ranch in Tioga, Texas and the Houston 3HO Yoga Center. He has taught at Rosemeade Recreation Center since 1996.

Through improved flexibility, breathing and circulation, Kundalini Yoga emphasizes a healthy body and mind as keys to a healthy and happy life. Exercise and meditation are augmented by the ancient technique of mantra to enhance the meditative aspect of the Yoga experience. Once learned, Yoga can be practiced at home. Amir Khan

Amir Khan is a professional composer and music educator with over 20 years experience as a recording artist and 10 years experience teaching music in a variety of positions. His recording works have been published by EMI International, Far East Peach (Japan) and Indie labels. In 2009, Amir completed advanced digital music production course from Berklee College of Music and holds an MBA in marketing from De La Salle University. Amir has been managing the keyboard/piano training program at the Coppell Aquatic & Recreation center since 2009. In 2011, Amir has introduced the keyboard/piano program at the Crosby Recreation Center in Carrollton and Community Activity Center in Flower Mound.

In addition to teaching piano/keyboard, Amir teaches digital audio workstation, music production and sound engineering. Currently, Amir has over 30 students ranging from ages 5 years to 55 years, from beginners to advanced levels.

Keyboard/piano program is a beginner program geared primarily towards children ages 5-14 years. Piano/keyboard is an ideal first musical instrument for children of any age. Being one of the easiest instruments to learn, children love the idea to instantly play simple songs. Research has shown piano/keyboard lessons help children in school, raise self esteem, increase coordination, help concentration and contributes to child being well-rounded.

Jennifer Reid, a marathoner, cyclist, triathlete and owner of LiveWire Fitness, understands the dedication and determination that it takes to get healthy and lose weight. After years of hitting the gym on her own, she decided to focus on helping others reach their fitness goals. She is an Elite Certified Personal Trainer and Indoor Cycling instructor from the nationally recognized Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas. Additionally, Jennifer has worked with celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak as an "off camera trainer" for the Health and Lifestyle TV show, The Revolution. Since she knows that nutrition is equally as important as exercise through her involvement with Weight Watchers, Jennifer is passionate about motivating and inspiring positive changes in her clients' workout program and their eating habits. Being physically fit has changed her life and she wants her clients to experience similar results.

Shane Ball is an Elite Certified Personal Trainer from the nationally recognized Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas. As a cyclist, runner and triathlete, he knows the discipline it takes to achieve superior levels of fitness. Shane is no stranger to instructing class; when is not making clients work hard to achieve their fitness goals, he is in the classroom as a college professor. Brett, USPTA Pro 1, has over 25 years playing and teaching experience. He is a former nationally ranked junior. After years away from the game, Brett returned to the game to play Div-1 collegiate tennis and compete professionally on the satellite tour. As a player, Brett won two Southern Sectional Championships. In addition to being a former collegiate head coach, he has extensive knowledge teaching players of all levels. Brett has served as the Director of Tennis at OCTC since 2009 and is the former head coach of Carrollton Christian Academy. Several of his students have gone on to earn college tennis scholarships and compete professionally.

Since 1991, he has taught martial arts in community facilities, allowing students to train in comprehensive, affordable programs with high caliber instruction. His goal is to help each student reach their personal best, inside and outside of the dojo. He created Red Tiger Karate to provide high quality programs that promote character development, physical fitness, and life skills for children and adults through the study of martial arts.

 

Don McGehee

Don has both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Biology, Chemistry and Education with experience in health, fitness, and nutrition education since 1981. His advanced fitness and cycling training is from the Cooper Institute in Dallas. He has been the Indoor Cycling instructor and personal trainer for the Rosemeade Rec Center for over six years. Don is an active outdoor cyclist and rides continuously during the spring, summer, and fall. He owns Health and Fitness Consulting in Carrollton, is a guest speaker at selected events, and regularly writes articles on health, fitness, and nutrition.

Takao Nakaya

Mr. Nakaya graduated from the university of Takushoku in Tokyo, Japan (BA), holds a master degree from the late Chozo Nakama in Okinawa, Japan (Karatedo). He has been teaching at our recreation center since 1975 and is the author of Karatedo History and Philosophy.

Learn Karatedo together, the mental and physical aspects, the techniques of self defense, learn the history, the philosophy of self control, better understand your own self and make a peaceful life.

Tony is qualified to train up to USAG Level 10, USAG Safety Certified, USAG Professional Member, CPR certified, First Aid certified, served on board of AGA for seven years, Professional member of AGA, recipient of Carrollton Parks and Recreation Department appreciation award. Tony Northrup, DBA Northrup Gymnastics, has been working with the children of Carrollton and surrounding area for 25 years. He and his staff have a passion for developing strong, healthy kids. Their unique approach creates a disciplined, fun and exciting atmosphere.

Northrup gymnastics offers your child the opportunity to acquire an appreciation for structured play. In this day of record numbers of obese children, the importance of one hour of physical play per day is essential. Along with exercise and eating well, children want structure. Trevor Parks 

Adult Karate

Trevor Parks first got involved in martial arts training in 1993 while serving in the United States Air Force. After a few years of initial karate training Trevor got involved in other various complimentary martial art styles such as Aikido and Judo to help expand his martial arts foundation and core knowledge. Trevor spends most of his martial arts training utilizing the most practical aspects of the traditional core style as well as implementing various complimentary techniques to help strengthen the mind and body. Trevor has spent a several years studying the latest in modern science in anything related to health and fitness as a way of better living through science, and he shares this knowledge with all of his students. Trevor has several hobbies keeping him busy in his spare time such as motocross racing, triathlon racing, and playing poker. Trevor’s day job is a network security and martial arts is what he uses to help keep his life balanced. Trevor is currently a 3rd Dan within the World Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate Association.

Currently Trevor teaches Adult karate classes on Monday and Wednesday at the Rosemead Rec Center.

 Dusty Pilgrim   

Outdoor Pursuits

Dusty Pilgrim thumb

Dusty has been camping and teaching since he was 6 years old. He grew up a Boy Scout and his mother was a special education teacher. Dusty spent most of his elementary school days volunteering to help teach children his age with Autism and Down Syndrome. Since then he's become an Eagle Scout, spent 2 years at the Dallas Museum of Natural History working in the Paleo lab, spent a brief time working security at the Caldwell Zoo, worked for the Boy Scouts on the national level, and in 2008 became a North Texas Chapter Master Naturalist. At the time, Dusty was the youngest Master Naturalist in the field. He works as the Environmental Programs Director at the North Texas Outdoor Pursuit Center, which is the worlds tallest rock climbing gym. As a nature guide, he teaches families about nature at the Elm Fork Nature Preserve. His degree is in fine arts, so when he's not teaching, he's working on his next gallery.

 

Shadae Rogers

Shadae Rogers graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Dance Education and Sociology Studies. Her journey began in 2002 with a dance background ranging from dance and drill, collegiate dance teams, summer camps, professional auditions, collegiate fine arts performances and more. Shadae enjoys teaching Modern, Broadway and Stylistic Jazz, Dance/Drill Team and Hip Hop. Dancing has allowed her to discover her true passion; sharing an enthusiasm for both life and dance to the youth of today.

Samantha Sparenberg

Samantha has earned certifications in Group Activity Leadership, Cardio Fitness (Aerobics), and Water Aerobics. She is also a Certified Personal Trainer, focusing on training for function, strength and energy. In her 25 years in the field of health and wellness, she has had multiple articles and columns published in local newspapers and magazines and continue to be available for public speaking events. She specializes in restoration of function in senior adults through weight training and therapeutic massage. Her program is aptly titled “Older is the New You”. Samantha conducts the Body Blast Class at the Carrollton Senior on Tuesdays and Thursdays focusing on building a stronger core through intensive strength training. Samantha has been teaching at the Senior Center since 1995 and enjoying every minute of it!

Excellent cardiovascular conditioning as the heart is more efficient in water
Resistance and density of water improves strength and flexibility which leads to better muscle endurance and balance, leading to quicker results in fitness. Water’s buoyancy supports 80% of your weight so there is less strain on joints, back and torso, and participants are less likely to injure muscles, bones, or joints. Cool water in summer lifts mood and keeps body temperature constant. Total body exercise, you can move body in ways you could not move on land. More calories are burned in water than on land, a typical class burns between 450 and 700 calories per hour.
