School Safety
| Carrollton
is fortunate to have excellent schools. Three school districts operate within the city limits -
Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, Lewisville ISD, and Dallas ISD.
Sixteen elementary, five middle schools, and four high schools are
divided among the three districts. Each of these schools offer
children the tools that will enable them to succeed in the future. |

To ensure children's safety , the city of Carrollton utilizes
several traffic control devices to improve traffic flow adjacent to
schools. Some of these tools are |

| School Zones |

Reduced speed limits may be desirable or necessary for school zones
during the hours when children to and from school. The speed limit in school zones within the
city is 20 mph. Each school zone operates according to the time
frame that most safely serves the adjacent school. Most citizens
pass through 1-2 school zones daily. Drivers should be aware that each zone can operate at different
times. |
| |
|
The installation of new school zones must meet established criteria.
These criteria include exposure factors (signalization, stop signs and no
traffic control), pedestrian crossings, school zone traffic counts, 85th
percentile speeds, number of travel lanes, and sight distance. School
zones are installed adjacent to any public elementary, junior high, and/or high
school that meet these standards. Adult crossing guards are provided at
elementary school zones that meet these standards and an established minimum pedestrian volume.
Adult crossing guards are not provided at junior high or high
school
school zones. Installation and/or removal of existing crossing guards is
evaluated twice per year by the Traffic Advisory Committee. |
