The city of Carrollton offers valuable information to assist you in understanding the development review process. Our goal is to facilitate this process for commercial projects, meeting both the needs of the development community and the city of Carrollton. This objective will be accomplished through the establishment of a partnership between the applicant and Building Inspection.

We understand that time is of the essence for business relocations and expansions, and that the city plays a key role in the timing of projects. Therefore, it is critical to all parties involved that your project be efficiently processed, resulting in an expeditious and predictable outcome.

To streamline the building permit process, we reorganized procedures, improved predictability and turnaround time and consolidated the development process to one department - Building Inspection.

One-Stop Shop program, with only one point of contact, the project manager.
Simplified permitting process by submitting required forms/applications at a centralized permitting location, eliminating multi-stop visits and reducing application paperwork.
Easy, analytical, step-by-step process.
Establishment of a partnership between the applicant and Building Inspection's project manager.
Anticipate potential complications and reduce delays and overlaps in the process.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances and ensures that issues are resolved to avoid major surprises.
Pre-application meetings have been developed to ensure that specific issues can be resolved through effective communication to avoid major surprises.
Distribution of a pre-application packet, a commercial workbook (checklist for applicant), a development guide and other manuals provide general information that will efficiently and effectively expedite the permit process.
Solution-oriented teamwork - a cooperative permitting team composed of representatives within Building Inspection has been cross-trained to review plan tracking topics from other departments such as Engineering, Planning, Transportation, Environmental Services, etc. This consolidates and shifts all permitting review tasks to one department, giving the stakeholder valuable and comprehensive information in "one" location.
