RETAINING WALLS

 

General Information

A permit is required for the installation of retaining walls over four (4) feet in height. This height is measured from the top of the wall to the bottom of the footing, whether exposed or covered.  (Example) Such walls are required to be designed by a Professional Engineer. If a contractor is used, that contractor must be registered in the city of Carrollton.

 

Plans submittal requirements

• A copy of a site plan or of your property with dimensions indicating the location of the retaining wall on the property.
• A Property Survey plan with dimensions indicating how the structure will be constructed.  Plans shall be signed and sealed by a Professional Engineer registered in the State of Texas.
• Retaining walls that face or have exposure to any public thoroughfare shall be constructed of brick or stone.

 

Inspections

An inspection will be required upon completion of work.
