Four independent school districts lie within the city boundaries. The Carrollton/Farmers Branch Independent School District, Lewisville Independent School District, Dallas Independent School District and Plano Independent School District. The majority of Carrollton's school age residents attend schools within the Carrollton/Farmers Branch Independent School District or the Lewisville Independent School District. The Plano Independent School District does not contain any schools. Carrollton's school population, being over 23,000 students, consists of approximately 46% elementary students, 18% middle school students, and 36% high school students. Carrollton has a large private school enrollment with 2,255 students. The instruction accommodates pre-kindergarten through high school levels.
