Downtown Carrollton Station

The concept for the Downtown Carrollton Station was to create a look that was calming and somewhat traditional, while still being interesting and lively.

The first image shows the view from the parking lot, looking towards the elevated platform.  This is DART's new "prototypical" elevated platform design.  It has a more curvilinear, less "harsh" design.

The second image shows four images of the elevated platform itself.  Notice the label in red letters saying "inscribed text."  This refers to the design concept of inscribing words or narration from an historical document into the concrete of the platform itself.  Using "handwriting" instead of block text will make the inscription more "human" and remind us of the pioneers that settled the area.

The third image shows details of the column design on the upper level.  The columns holding up the canopy will be wrapped in two-tone "rolled steel."  Using steel is reflective of the "iron horse" (or train) upon which so much depended in the early days of settlement.

Inset into each column will be illuminated "heroic portrait" collages using historic imagery combined with "found objects" in an artistic manner.  These portraits symbolize the various types of people who boldly set out to settle the untamed wilderness.

Notice the silvery strips along the platform edge in the upper left image?  These are to be two "time lines," one depicting important events in the history of Carrollton, and the other showing events in world history.
