DART LRT Stations Art & Design Plans North Carrollton StationNorth Carrollton Station will be on the south side of Frankford Road, east of Interstate 35E. It will be the last station on the line, and so will attract riders not only from Carrollton, but also from Denton County - including Lewisville and Denton. Because the immediate area is still developing as a warehouse district, we do not anticipate the same kind of mixed-use redevelopment opportunities here. However, the City’s Indian Creek Golf Course’s proximity to the station may provide unique opportunities for future development. Indian Creek Golf Club is Dallas – Fort Worth’s premier 36-hole daily fee facility and is the only public golf course accessible by rail north of IH-30. Indian Creek has won many awards including Golf Digest’s ranking the Creek Course among the 10 best new courses in 2004. The North Carrollton Station is "hidden" behind an existing building, away from the road which poses a hinderance to finding the platform. In order to draw the eye to this station - which functions as a "gateway" station for passengers coming from the north - the artists decided that very bold colors and patterns should be used to draw patrons towards the platform. The first image shows views of the very lively, colorful paving patterns used in walkways. The curved lines and bright colors seem to draw the eye forward, and lead the way to the station platform. A tall vertical sculptural element in the center of the bus turn-around will announce "here it is!" Wide, sweeping curves will usher the passengers up stairs to the platform. As shown on the second image, once on the platform, a series of brightly-colored, sculpturally-shaped columns will enliven the space. THIS may be the station "everyone has to see." As such, it will make a fine "gateway" to Carrollton and the entire DART LRT system. Because the existing development around the North Carrollton station is very new, this area is not expected to redevelop in a more "transit-oriented" manner in the near future. However, the image below shows an aerial view of possible redevelopment.
