Smoke Testing Program

Public Works will be implementing the wastewater collection system smoke testing program to identify breaks, defects and illegal connections to the wastewater collection system.  Identifying and reducing the number of breaks, defects and illegal connections by customers will help to reduce infiltration and inflow and consequently saves the city wastewater treatment costs to the Trinity River Authority.

Weather and workload permitting, the following areas are scheduled for smoke testing:

August 2007 Carillon Hills Courtyard Homes.  The streets that will be involved with this process are:  Verlaine, Gallante, Chalfont, Avignon, Lorient, Roussillon and Province.
September 2007 Hill Top Square Subdivision

Prior to smoke testing, surrounding neighborhoods and businesses will be notified by door hanger.  After the smoke testing program has been completed in your area, Public Work employees will do an ending notification process to all businesses/residences affected during the process.   Please note: any defects noted or found on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.  The property owner will be required to make necessary repairs to maintain compliance with federal, state and local laws.  Environmental Services will be responsible for enforcement of this ordinance and will be on site to issue Notices of Violation.
