Storm Clean-Up Information

Please read below for additional storm cleanup information and details about repairs, permits and contractors.

REPAIRS, PERMITS & CONTRACTORS
Before signing a contract for any work, be sure the contractor is registered with the City of Carrollton Building Inspection department. City ordinance requires all contractors to be registered. Requiring contractors to register with the City helps property owners avoid ‘fly-by-night’ contractors who may perform substandard repairs and construction. Contact Building Inspection at 972-466-3225 to find out if your contractor is registered.

Also, be sure to review the list of permit fees below. It is important to know what the City charges, to avoid a common scam in which an unscrupulous contractor may try to charge a substantially larger amount, claiming the money is for a City permit fee, then pocketing the difference.

If more than 20 feet of fence is to be replaced or relocated, you are required to obtain a fence permit from the City. Contact Building Inspection at 972-466-3225 for more information.

Depending upon the type of structural damage done to your home, you may be required to have an appropriate repair permit issued by the City. Contact Building Inspection at 972-466-3225 for more information.

PERMIT FEES
Basic permits for fencing, re-roofing, and other miscellaneous construction (carports, arbors, patio covers, etc.) all carry a $50 fee. Repairing or remodeling a home where plumbing, electrical or mechanical subcontractors are used requires a remodeling permit; the fees for such permits are calculated at $5 per $1,000 of project valuation, with a minimum of a $100 fee. TRASH & RECYCLING SERVICE
All trash and recycling service is on regular schedule. Trash and recycling containers that are usually left by the alleyway for normal collection by the automated waste vehicles should still be placed by the alleyway. These containers are only meant to hold up to 50 lbs. of materials. Do not place rocks or heavy logs in the containers as they may become too heavy and therefore unable to be picked up by the automated collection vehicles.

SHINGLES
Items such as a dozen shingles or less can be placed in the containers for collection if their weight is less than 50 lbs. However, a roof section or large amount of shingles, with a weight greater than 50 lbs. should be placed out for collection by the street. Loose materials such as large amounts of shingles or rocks should be contained in some way, such as placed in cardboard boxes or regular trash cans (not the containers for automated pickup).

STORM DEBRIS
Storm debris such as tree brush, logs, fences or large amounts of shingles should be placed out by the front curb or street. This is necessary because grappler trucks must be used to collect these large amounts of bulk debris, and the grappler trucks do not fit or operate well in City alleyways.

When placing material by the curb please use care to keep it out of the street as it could interfere with emergency response vehicles and other traffic. If at all possible, do not obstruct the sidewalk.

All trees and limbs must be cut to a length of four feet or less in order for the material to fit properly into the collection vehicle. Place all waste fence panels and sections behind the front curb, lying flat on the ground, and pound down or remove any protruding nails before placing for collection.

Stumps and roots must be cut down to 4 foot lengths in order to fit in the collection vehicle or grappler truck.
