Cookies for the Troops Cookbook, created by a group of women at the Carrollton Senior Center to raise postage money for their care package shipments to the troops, features 149 cookie recipes submitted and compiled by Carrollton Senior Center members and is now on sale.

Emergency Alert Siren Testing Reminder
This is a reminder that at approximately 1pm this afternoon, Wednesday, July 7, the City of Carrollton will conduct its monthly emergency alert system siren test. The sirens are tested the first Wednesday of every month at approximately 1pm.

Festival at the Switchyard Announces Website Redesign
Check out the newly redesigned Festival at the Switchyard website at http://carrolltonfestival.com for entertainment and vendor updates. The inaugural, two-day, outdoor event takes place October 22-23, 2010 on the Downtown Carrollton Square and will feature live entertainment from Robert Earl Keen, Polyphonic Spree and the Old 97s.

Changes in Credit Card Processing Take Effect August 2

Recently, Waste Management was chosen as the new service provider for residential solid waste collection after submitting a competitive bid that will save taxpayers more than $5 million over the life of the contract. DART officials have announced a projected long-term shortfall in sales tax revenue that will result in indefinite delay of some projects. The current 37-mile light rail expansion, which includes the completion of the Green Line from Pleasant Grove to Carrollton, will not be affected.

City Recognized for Infrastructure Improvements to Nix Road
The U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has recognized the City of Carrollton as a member of HUD’s Region VI ARRA Honor Roll. The City of Carrollton used its $212,536 in CDBG-Recovery funds on reconstruction of street, sidewalk, water and sewer line repair for the Nix Road N.O.T.I.C.E. project.

The Carrollton Police Department is launching a new program initiative, in partnership with specially trained alumni of the Carrollton Citizen Police Academy. These graduates now volunteer their time as part of the Carrollton Citizen Patrol, performing tasks such as parking violation enforcement that allow police officers to concentrate on other aspects of their job.
