Adventure Team - Travis and Jennifer
Teaches:
Adventure club
Travis and Jennifer operate Adventure Team, an adult adventure club, as well as
run the adventure day camps. They coordinate hundreds of outdoor events
each year and are working with several municipal parks and recreation
departments to help develop continuing outdoor programs.
Jan Baker
Teaches: Jazzercise
Jan has been
a certified Jazzercise instructor since 1989 and has been successfully teaching
Jazzercise for the City Of Carrollton for over 12 years.
Classes are now held at the new Senior Center at 1720 Keller Springs Rd. She is CPR certified and receives additional training
through Jazzercise Inc. Patrons continue to return each session for her safe low
or high impact classes in a fun and friendly environment!
Jeanine Black
Teaches: Ra-Kid-Ball &
Adult Racquetball
Jeanine’s
eleven years of being an educator combined with her 17 years of playing
competitive racquetball has made her an effective racquetball instructor for
students of all ages. Having worked with students from elementary to
adults, Jeanine presents and instructs students in a manner that is fun,
relaxed and meaningful to their level. Her years of being a ranked player
and student of the game have developed not only skills and strategies but also
a genuine love for the game she hopes to pass along to others.
Chris Bouguyon
Teaches: Tai Chi for Arthritis
Sifu Chris
Bouguyon began his studies of martial arts at age 12, with a passion that has
led him to train in 16 different styles with many great masters over the past 28
years. Sifu Chris is a full time instructor for SimplyAware.com holding classes
across the greater Dallas area for ages 5 to 95.
Melissa Bowman
Teaches: Invertebrate
Fossils of Texas
Melissa has
a B.A. in Geoscience from the University of Texas at Dallas and a teaching
certification in Earth Science. During
college she was a teacher’s assistant for an oceanography and dinosaur program.
Carrollton Fire Department
Teaches: Adult CPR with
AED, Pediatric CPR and Basic First Aid
These
classes are taught by certified instructors through the Carrollton Fire Department
and earn an American Heart Association certificate that is valid for two years.
Don Chesshir
Teaches: Dance
Don is the
man behind Chesshir Entertainment. Don has taught over 70,000 people to
dance and has a well-trained crew of instructors who work with him to provide
some of the best adult dance lessons in the Metroplex.
Jasmine Cook
Teaches: Dance
Jasmine has been in the dance
profession for over 28years. Her background consists of Ballet, Tap, Lyrical
and drill team. She has performed at many nationally televised parades,
professional football games and charity organizations. Jasmine was also a
member of the Famous Apache Belles. When she is not busy here at Rosemeade she
is teaching dance classes at Lancaster Dance Academy where she is Senior Dance Instructor.
Cheri Croslin-Kuehn
Teaches: Dance
Cheri has been teaching
dancers for more than 25 years. She graduated from the University of
Wisconsin with a Bachelors of Science degree in dance, focusing on dance
therapy. She has taught and programmed at Top Hat Dance Company,
Brookhaven College and was director of dance at the Dallas Jewish
Community Center. Cheri has also created her own complete program for
special needs children.
Jill Epperson
Teaches: Jr. Culinary
Kids, Kids Krafts & Fun
Jill has
studied Fine Arts at San Antonio Junior College and the Dallas Fine
Arts Institute. She has a special talent for art and creative cooking
that she brings into her successful classes. Jill has been teaching
cooking and preschool for the City of Carrollton since 1991.
Billy R. Fields
Teaches:
Mortgage Banking
Mr.
Fields has been in the mortgage banking business for over 15 years. He is
experienced in foreclosure and bankruptcy, and worked as a mortgage originator.
He is a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, served as board member
for Hope's Door and the African American Museum in Fair Park. He is affiliated
with Paul Quinn Alumni, Texas Mortgage Bankers Association, Greater Dallas
Association of Realtors, Home Builders Association, The Dallas Urgan League, the
Urban Financial Services Coalition and the Afican American Leadership Council.
He received a BS degree in Business Management from Paul Quinn College and East
Texas State University and served on a debate team at Oxford University in
England.

Russ Gold
Teaches: Guitar
Russ has
been playing the guitar for 33 years, and teaching for 31. He has
attended the New England Conservatory in Boston, Southern Methodist
University and the North Carolina School of the Arts where he
received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Guitar performance. Russ has
performed many concerts on stage, radio, and television in various parts of the
United States .
Tony Granados
Teaches: Ballroom Dance
Classes
Tony has been dancing for ten
years and teaching for two. He is a Dance Host at numerous local senior
centers and the Marilyn Meyers Dance Connection. His specialties are
Swing, Rumba, Cha-Cha, and the Tango. Tony teaches ballroom dance classes
at the senior center every Saturday afternoon.
Rhonda Grigg
Teaches: Jazzercise & Personal Touch-Personal Training
Rhonda is
a certified Physical Fitness Specialist through the Cooper Institute, a
certified Jazzercise Instructor, and is also certified in Adult CPR.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M in 1985, and
has been an instructor at Rosemeade Recreation Center since 1997.
Jan Guinn
Teaches: Yoga, Stretch & Havin' A Ball
Jan Guinn has been a dedicated yoga practitioner for
several years. She is a certified Yoga, Pilates and Group Exercise instructor.
She has also been certified as a Silver Sneakers instructor which qualifies her
to teach exercise classes to seniors. She Yoga at the Crosby Recreation Center
and other recreation and corporate fitness centers throughout the Metroplex.
Her newest class is called Havin' A Ball.
Amy Hancock
Teaches: Spin Cycling
Amy has been
an aerobic instructor, coordinator and personal trainer for 10 years and is
certified through AFAA, Cooper, Turbo kick, PIYO and PHIA. Amy currently
teaches group exercise classes including step, body sculpting, sports
conditioning, kickboxing, cycling, interval, Pilates and yoga. Amy is
also a fitness competitor and has participated in Galaxy Nova Fitness and The
Heart of Texas competitions.
Dave Holl
Teaches: Kayaking Programs
Dave, of
Kayak Instruction, Inc., has over 25 years of white water kayak
experience. He has led several outings in North Carolina for The Sierra Club’s National Outings
Program. He is certified with the American Canoe Association as a Flat
water, Moving water, and White water Instructor. His other certifications
include: Wilderness First Responder, lifeguard, and first aid & CPR for the
Professional Rescuer from the American Red Cross.
Jack Howe
Teaches: Tai Chi
Jack is a former AAU
All-American in Chinese Martial Arts. He is an 18-year student of Master
Richard Peck. Jack has been teaching Tai Chi classes for more than 12
years. His classes are taught with a focus on stress relief, increased
vitality, improved balance and overall improved health and attitude.
Roxanne Hughes
Teaches: Getting the
Basics & Pathways to Preschool
Ms.
Roxie has brought a wealth of knowledge and new ideas to her classes for the
City of Carrollton. While studying
Elementary Education at Texas Tech, she specialized in elementary art, music
and speech.
Gilbert
Jimenez
Teaches: Karate
Gilbert has
instructed Karate for the City of Carrollton since 1992 and is a
second Degree Black Belt. He has been studying the Okinawan martial arts
of karate since 1984. Gilbert also has a Bachelor of Science degree in
bilingual elementary studies from Texas Women’s University in Denton.
Joanna Jordan
Teaches: Dance
Joanna has a BA in Dance and graduated Cum Laude from UNT
in 2003 and is Pilates certified. Mrs. Jordan has been in the field of dance
since 1992, both teaching and performing locally. Mrs. Jordan teaches for the
City of Carrollton, the City of Farmers Branch, Royale Ballet and All That Jazz.
She is a dynamic teacher who brings out the best in each of her students by
offering creative and innovative teaching. She is highly skilled in ballet, tap,
hip-hop, jazz, drill team, salsa, modern and Pointe for preschoolers to adults.
Swami Dev
Singh Khalsa
Teaches: Kundalini Yoga
Swami Dev
has been teaching Kundalini Yoga since 1975 and is certified as an instructor
by the Kundalini Research Institution. He has studied under the guidance
of Indian Yoga Master Yogi Bhajan since 1974. Swami Dev has taught
Kundalini Yoga at North Carolina School of the Arts, 3HO Yoga Center in Houston, and has been the
director of the Dallas 3HO Yoga Center since 1991.
Lyla Malzahn

Aerobics
Lyla holds the following
certifications: National Certification for Older Adult Exercise, Personal
Training, Biomechanics of Personal Training, Cycling Specialty Cert., SCW-EDU
Group Exercise, and Silver Sneakers I and II with 9 years of experience. She
graduated from Union University with a BS degree. She loves teaching older
adults and says over 50 RULZ!! Her class is held Friday mornings at the Senior
Center. She is now certified to teach Tai chi for arthritis.
Gail Marshall

Gail is a
full-time fitness consultant and trainer. She has been involved in the
health and sports industries since 1982 and has taught for the City of
Carrollton since 1987.
Simin
Mashreghi
Teaches: PiYo
(Pilates/Yoga) for Everyone
Simin's passion for Yoga and
Pilates started 10 years ago. She has participated in numerous classes for over
19 years. Her Yoga training has mostly been in Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa
Yoga. She also teaches at 24 Hour Fitness, Lewisville's Baha'i Center, Gold's Gym and
Castle Hills Community Center. Her
certifications include AFAA Primary, FiTOUR Pilates and FiTOUR Yoga, and CPR.
She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Towson State University in
Maryland and her other hobbies include watercolor painting and
singing.
Kari
McGinnis

Kari
has a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in elementary education and is currently working on
her master’s degree at Texas Women’s University. She is a substitute
teacher and is certified in Project Wild and Project Wet.
Royce Milam/Wild

Teaches: Scout Badge
Programs
Royce is
co-owner and naturalist for Wild Vision, a family-owned organization dedicated
to excellence in environmental education. He started interpreting nature groups
as a junior trail guide in 1975 at the Heard Natural Science Museum in McKinney. Royce began
working as a naturalist/program director at the Dallas Nature Center in 1993 and resigned in
1995 to start Wild Vision.
Tina Mims
Teaches: Basic Dog
Obedience
Tina has
her MBA and is excited to join us this summer to teach dog obedience classes.
Tina's training experience is extensive in businesses across the country, with
local citizens and at the university level. You'll find her classes fun,
engaging, and promising for your dog obedience needs. Become a Canine Good
Citizen this summer!
Tony Northrup
Teaches: All Northrup
Gymnastics Classes
Coach Tony was
a competitive gymnast for 5 years at the Junior and High school levels.
He taught gymnastics in Abilene for three years and
began with the City of Carrollton in 1991. Coach
Tony is qualified to train gymnasts up to USGA level 10 and is safety certified.
He is also a staff member at Bela Karoliy’s summer gymnastics camps.
Tom Noune
Teaches: Personal Trainer
Tom is a
certified Personal Trainer who works with clients at Rosemeade Recreation
Center, Crosby Recreation Center and the Senior Center. He offers
years of experience, a positive attitude and a great philosophy to his
clients. He also teaches Weight Room Orientation classes at the
facilities.
April Powers
Teaches:
Personal Trainer, T.O.N.E. (Tightening of Nearly Everything)
April is a certified Personal Trainer who works with clients at Rosemeade
Recreation Center, Crosby Recreation Center and the Senior Center. She also
teaches Weight Room Orientation classes at the facilities and is a certified
group fitness instructor who teaches T.O.N.E. She brings enthusiasm and a
positive attitude to her clients and has a passion for teaching.
Don Seiler
Teaches: Adult Karate
Don has been
training in traditional Japanese Budo since 1989. He has trained
extensively in Judo, Aidido and Iaido before dedicating himself to the lifelong
pursuit of Okinawa Karate-Do. With over fifteen years of experience, he
has become adept at demonstrating and sharing effective training methods with
many fellow practitioners. He has been a licensed instructor of the WMKA
since 2002.
Robert Selders
Teaches:
Personal Trainer
Robert is quickly becoming a recognized expert in the fitness and performance
enhancement industry, brining over 17 years of combined experience as a
multi-sport athlete and strength and conditioning professional. In 2004 he was
recognized as one of the nation's top trainers by The American Association of
Personal Trainers. He completed his Master's Degree from California University
of Pennsylvania in Exercise Science (with an emphasis in Performance Enhancement
and Injury Prevention.)
David Scott
Teaches: Tennis
As the Head
Tennis Professional at Oak Creek Tennis Center, David is certified at the
highest level by both the United States Professional Tennis Association and the
Professional Tennis Registry. He has 10 years of experience coaching adults and
juniors of all ability levels. David leads a highly trained crew of instructors
who work with him to provide the best instruction to all tennis enthusiasts.
From classes to tournaments, David and his team are committed to providing a
wide variety of programs for players of all skill levels. In addition, David is
a certified USTA official and referee and also one of only 21 certified USRSA
Master Racquet Technicians in Texas.
Randy Scrudder
Teaches: GIS/GPS
Mr.
Scrudder has taught at the middle and high school levels for 17 years – the last
nine years he has taught Technology Education at Ted Polk Middle School in
Carrollton, Texas. He has taught ArcView software to his Technology Education
students and co-sponsored the Ted Polk Middle School GIS Club. As a Co-sponsor
of the TPMS GIS Club, he assisted students with creating and presenting to the
City of Carrollton a property enhancement proposal consisting of a series of
walking trails, park, and playground area for the greenbelt located on the NW
corner of Frankford Road and Josey Lane in Carrollton. This summer the city will
begin construction of a modified walking trail based upon this proposal.
He has become a proficient geocacher with over 650 geocache finds in three
states and 30+ caches hidden in the Metroplex area. Mr. Scrudder is a graduate
of Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He has also taught at Rivera H.S.
(Brownsville, TX), Porter H.S. (Brownsville, TX), and Bridge City H.S. (Bridge
City, TX).
Samantha Sparenburg
Teaches: Aerobics
Samantha is a Certified Group
Exercise Leader, Certified Physical Fitness Specialist-Personal Trainer, and
registered massage therapist. She specializes in restoration of function
in senior adults through weight training and therapeutic massage.
Samantha has been teaching low impact aerobics at the Senior Center since 1995 and enjoying every minute of it!
Sally Stabb
Teaches: Middle Eastern
Dance
Sally has been training and
performing Middle Eastern Dance for 12 years. She began and continues her
training as a student with Master Tambra and Master Vashti. She has taught
beginning belly dance to numerous Dallas residents. Sally is also a tenured professor of
psychology at TWU in Denton.
Johannes Starkes

Johannes
is currently the Director of Technology and a College Counselor at American
Heritage Academy. She has been successfully assisting students plan for
college by helping them map a course starting their freshman year.
Kevin Sullivan

Kevin has a Masters degree in
Physical Education, has taught in Carrollton for the past 17 years, and has been an instructor for
the city of Carrollton for 16 years.
Nakaya Takao
Teaches: Karate
Nakaya is the author of
"Karate do-History and Philosophy" and has taught Karate for the City
of Carrollton since 1975. He is from Japan and graduated from the University of Takushoku in Tokyo. He has practiced Karate since 1962, with
lessons from the late Chozo Nakama and has taught for over 20 years.
Takao has achieved the highest level attainable in Karate, the Master Black
Belt.
Texas Master
Naturalist
Teaches: Flora and Fauna
Programs
The Texas
Master Naturalist program is a non-profit organization sponsored by the Texas
Parks & Wildlife and the Texas Cooperative Extension. Members initially
undergo 40 hours of intensive training in their local ecosystems, both in the
classroom and on field trips. After completing training, members are required
to volunteer at least 40 hours per year and complete at least 8 hours of
advanced training per year in the topic(s) of their choice in order to be
certified. The mission statement of the organization is: To develop a corps of
well-informed volunteers to provide education, outreach and service dedicated
to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within
their communities.
Nick Theis
Teaches: Rock and Mineral
Programs
Nick has a
Ph.D. in Geology and has worked as a geoscientist for 35 years in the United States and abroad in both
the oil and mining industries. He is currently teaching at Brookhaven and Collin County Colleges.
Chris Thornton
Teaches: Bunka
Chris is a Semi-Master and
certified Bunka instructor. She studied Bunka, a Japanese form of needle
art, under Head-Master Akio McKessick and has been teaching since 1992.
Mike Tufariello Jr.
Teaches: Boxing 101, Tuf
Time Boxing Workout
Mike is the 1997 Dallas Golden Glove Champion, 1997 DFW
Metro Champion and 2002/2003 Toughman Champion. He has over 10 years of
experience as a personal trainer and boxing instructor.
Mike Tufariello Sr.
Teaches: Boxing 101, Tuf
Time Boxing Workout
Mike Sr. was a NYC Golden Glove Champion and Navy East
Coast Boxing Champion. He has many years of boxing and exercise
experience including training his son, Mike Tufariello Jr. (see above)
competitively.
Detha Watson
Teaches: Oil Painting
Detha has been
painting for 30 years. She specializes
in character studies, wildlife paintings and portraits. She was commissioned to do the ancestral
portraits of the Count and Countess Horn of Sweden and is currently under contract with the
Franklin Mint to create the Indian Collector’s Plate Series, a collection of
eight Native American images for world wide distribution. We are privileged to have her teach classes
at the Senior Center on Saturday afternoons.
