Police Officer Qualifications

Citizenship Applicants must be U. S. Citizens

Age Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years old when taking the Civil Service Examination, but cannot have reached your 45th birthday.

Education Applicants must have an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field, or 90 hours of college credit.

If applicant holds an Intermediate Certificate from the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education – 30 hrs. of college required

If a veteran: Honorable Discharge, or Certified Texas Peace Officer, Two years but less than 3 years continuous service or active military Duty, 45 hours of college. Three years or more of continuous service or active Military duty, 30 college hours required.

Military Record  Honorable Discharge if served.

Criminal Record  No felony or major misdemeanor convictions.

Character Good moral character, stable employment record, good credit rating, good driving record, valid driver's license, no history of addiction to drugs or alcohol.
