The Carrollton Police Department responds to over 13,000 security alarm calls a year and over 99% of them are false.  Approximately 30% of the total calls for police service are alarm calls.

What is a false alarm?

A false alarm occurs when a security system is activated where there is no emergency - whether it is activated willfully, unintentionally, negligently or inadvertently.  It also includes a system activated due to mechanical or electrical malfunction.

A false alarm does not occur when an alarm system is activated, an attempted or actual illegal entry, theft, or robbery; and observable act of vandalism; extreme weather conditions or nature; testing or repairing of telephone or electrical line or equipment outside the premises, unless prior notice of the testing or repair is provided to the Alarm Company so that Police Dispatch will not be called.

Is there a charge if my alarm system is accidentally activated?

If your system is activated and a Carrollton Police Officer determines that it was not a "false alarm", there is no charge.   Alarm users are allowed a maximum of 3 false alarms in a consecutive 12 month period.  There will be a charge for any additional false alarms during this time.
