What is CPTED?

CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) is a model for reducing crime by altering the environment around a given area. Security elements such as lighting, landscaping, physical barriers (fences, locks and doors) and psychological barriers (areas free of clutter and debris) are each addressed in a CPTED survey. CPTED looks at each property individually and works towards the end goal of achieving the highest resistance to crime with the lowest attractiveness for criminal activity.
