Shattered Dreams Shattered Dreams is an anti-drinking and driving program aimed at high school juniors and seniors around prom time. The goal is to educate the students that drinking and driving can have fatal consequences. This life lesson takes several months to plan. It culminates in a day and a half event at school. The program includes a video depicting students making decisions that lead to a mock crash. The mock crash takes place in the parking lot and is a graphic demonstration of the potential consequences of drinking and driving. The mock crash is made as realistic as possible. Police, Fire, Care Flite, and Rhoton Funeral Home all respond to deal with the aftermath. Throughout the rest of the day the Living Dead are chosen from class. These are students that applied months before to represent the statistical number of persons killed every day in the country due to drinking and driving. A select group of participants go to an overnight retreat. The next day a mock funeral is held.
Testimonials from staff and students who participate and witness the program show that an impact is made.
The program rotates from R.L. Turner High School, Newman Smith High School, Creekview High School, and Hebron High School.
The current program will be held in April 2007 at Creekview High School.
