Pollution Prevention Program

The Pollution Prevention Coordinator within the Environmental Quality Division administers the Pollution Prevention Program.  This program promotes and enforces Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations for the protection of Carrollton's public health and natural resources.  The coordinator is responsible for  a number of specific areas.

Non-hazardous Liquid Waste Haulers are inspected and permitted by the coordinator on a yearly basis. This program reduces the number of illegal discharges that threaten our water supply and the public health.

The coordinator inspects and monitors the function and servicing of all grease traps located within the city.  Proper maintenance of these traps ensures that city sewer lines remain free of blockages and reduces the occurrences of sanitary sewer overflows.

Being prepared for emergencies is paramount to protecting the public health, and knowing where dangerous chemicals reside is the key to being prepared.  The coordinator works closely with the Fire Department in maintaining a chemical database that contains information regarding the location and description of chemicals stored at various industries within Carrollton.  This information can be downloaded instantly in emergency situations.

A major aspect of the coordinator's job is responding to citizen's questions and environmental complaints.  These include disposal of household chemicals, illegal discharges of swimming pool water, dumping of chemicals into the street and storm drains, along with noise and glare complaints.
