Carrollton Plans Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Adaptive Sports Field

Josey-Ranch-Field-6_invitationThe Mayor and City Council will officiate a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly updated field number six at Josey Ranch Sports Complex (1440 Keller Springs Road).

All ages are welcome to attend this free event. Grilled hot dogs, chips, snacks, and drinks will be available. After the ceremony, players and coaches from the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District Special Olympics All Stars team will participate in a few innings of a kickball exhibition scrimmage.

The field was originally built in 1989 as a stand-alone baseball field, rather than a four-plex, and was underutilized and in need of repairs. The City of Carrollton’s Parks & Recreation Department saw this as a perfect opportunity to bridge the gap in programming for adaptive-centric opportunities and rejuvenate the area, turning it into a multi-use field for adaptive offerings.

As part of the upgrade, the existing field was converted to a low-pile synthetic turf that provides a more functional surface for wheelchairs and individuals with special needs. Additionally, a new backstop, fencing, drainage, and wider dugouts were installed according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design.
