Carrollton Parks & Recreation Receives Regional Awards

Post Date:11/19/2015
awardThe City of Carrollton was recently recognized with two awards from the Texas Recreation & Park Society (TRAPS).

The Parks and Recreation department won the TRAPS Promotional Award for successfully publicizing the 4th Annual Carrollton Trails 5K. The annual run is held the first weekend in May and sees hundreds of participants. In May 2015, the race saw nearly 700 runners and walkers, as well as 15 vendors and sponsors.

The award recognizes outstanding promotional efforts of a park and recreation or leisure agency within the past year.

The Carrollton Trails 5K and One-mile Fun Run are open to runners of all ages, and the race route highlights one of Carrollton's best assets, the hike and bike trails.

The department also nominated long-time volunteer Gerry Lalima who won the TRAPS Advocate of the Year award for her significant contributions to the community’s parks and recreation services.

traps Gerry“Gerry's dedication to making Carrollton a better place to live is evident in her involvement in the various boards, commissions, councils, and general volunteerism,” Parks and Recreation Director Scott Whitaker said. “She continues to communicate the needs of those she represents to the City Council and the Mayor.”

Lalima is a staunch supporter of Carrollton’s Parks and Recreation department, its programs and policies, and specifically the Senior Center. She serves on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Senior Advisory Council, and as a Capital Improvement Plan Advisory Committee (CIPAC) liaison.
