It’s a connection made in logistics heaven. The City of Carrollton is “Where Connections Happen” so it’s only natural to partner with a company like shipping giant DHL whose strategy for the future is to “Focus. Connect. Grow.” And grow it has into a brand new facility located on Kelly Boulevard in Carrollton. The building opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, August 15.
Mayor Pro Tem Glen Blanscet delivered remarks at the event about the partnership regarding the potential of the company in Carrollton and the benefit to all involved, including residents.
“We are excited to welcome DHL to the City of Carrollton,” Blanscet said. “The new service center is a $6.2 million state-of-the-art logistics facility that will serve customers all around the world and employ 70 new employees. As a fast growing company, I look forward to the future of DHL in our community."
Customer benefits include later cutoff times for pick-up and earlier deliveries as well as a convenient location for customers to drop off shipments.
DHL Express U.S. constructed the new facility to serve international shipping customers based in the East Dallas area. DHL selected Carrollton due to its connections to all major highways, proximity to DFW International and Love Field Airports, and a business-friendly environment with a competitive cost structure.
The investment was driven by the company’s current and forecasted shipment growth from local businesses trading internationally as well as the continuing growth in e-commerce shipping according to DHL.
The 50,000 sq. ft. service center is located at 1600 Kelly Boulevard and will employ 70 workers spanning from management, couriers, and frontline agents to sales reps, safety personnel, and industrial engineers. The center is anticipated to ship and process 1,190 pieces per hour while serving major area customers of Amazon, L3 Communications, and Texas Instruments.
The company employs some 500,000 employees in more than 220 countries and territories, including nearly 37,000 in the U.S. and more than 2,500 in Texas.
