As part of our ongoing series of bike safety tips, the City reminds all drivers to keep an eye out for cyclists and pedestrians. Remember to share the road, allowing a minimum of three feet when passing a bicyclist. Texas state law considers bicycles to be a vehicle. Therefore, bicyclists are allowed to use the full lane.

Check out the video below for a few more tips on driving safely near bicyclists and pedestrians.

Nicer weather have you pedaling places? Remember, Texas state law considers a bicycle to be a vehicle, and you must operate your bike according to vehicular laws on the street.

Obey all traffic laws, signs, and signals. Never ride opposite the flow of traffic; wear visible clothing; use a white front and a red rear reflector or light. Although a helmet is not required by law, it is strongly encouraged.

Stay safe and pedal on friends.
