Celebrate Veterans Day in Carrollton

Post Date:10/11/2017 6:00 PM

The City of Carrollton will honor the service and sacrifice of local military members as well as their friends and families with events during the Veterans Day weekend.

The Carrollton Senior Center will host the annual Veterans Day Luncheon on Friday, November 10 at 11 a.m. for veterans and widows of veterans. Guests will be treated to lunch and a patriotic concert performed by the New Horizons Band Dallas. Pre-registration is required by November 6 for this free event. Sign up at the Carrollton Senior Center (1720 Keller Springs Road) or call 972-466-4850.

Don’t forget to check out the Veterans Memorial monument located in the breezeway outside of the Senior Center. The podium, installed one year ago on Veterans Day, is adorned with a message that reinforces the City’s commitment to recognize all service members who make their home in the Carrollton community.

The following day, a Concert on the Square in Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway) will be held to continue the remembrance of military members and their service to the country. The inaugural Vibes for Vets event will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 11 and feature music from the Jimmy Lee Jordan Band. Bring your favorite veteran to enjoy an afternoon of music and food as the City pays tribute to America’s heroes.

The New Horizons Band Dallas will open the show for Jordan, a U.S. Air Force veteran with more than 20 years of service, who managed to find a balance of music and the call of duty by performing for troops as a vocalist on his days off.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets, a few dollars for the food truck, and their friendly canine companions. In case of rain, the concert will be cancelled. For weather cancellation updates, call 972-466-9135.

To pay respect to local veterans all year long, visit Veterans Park in McInnish Sports Complex, which includes three monuments that recognize fallen service members from Carrollton. The recently developed area of the soccer complex was dedicated in November 2015 in partnership with Carrollton VFW Post 8923 and American Legion Post 597.
