TEXFest video imageExcitement is brewing for Carrollton’s third annual TEXFest, a free celebration of Texas Independence Day, featuring craft beer and Texas music.

The festival, now less than three weeks away, will take place on Saturday, March 3 in Historic Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway Street) from 3-9 p.m.

Texas country music artist Grant Gilbert and country and Southern rock group The Jimmy Lee Jordan band will warm up the crowd before headliner The Black Lillies take the stage.

Gilbert began his music career while he was in high school in Santo, a small town about 60 miles west of Fort Worth. Music was always on his mind, even when he was busy playing sports and working on his family’s farm, and now his dreams have become reality as he tours this great state playing songs such as “Like I’m Your Whiskey” and “On Guard.”

The Jimmy Lee Jordan Band has been performing on stages both small and large in the South and around the world for many years. Showcasing songs such as “Keep Your Hands to Yourself/Little Less Talk” and “Desperado,” as well as their infamous comic relief skit, Redneck Fat Man, the JLJB will provide attendees with a boot scootin’ time.

Headlining the show, The Black Lillies will perform songs such as “Ruby,” “Mercy,” and “Hard to Please” that will blur the boundaries between folk, soul, red dirt country, blues, and rock. The internationally-renowned band of roots-rockers has four albums under its belt and has won praise from outlets including Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, and Billboard. They’ve chased down success on their terms, ignoring the trends of Nashville and focusing on a sound that continues to cross generations and musical genres.

In addition to great music, attendees will enjoy good food, wine from a local vineyard, and craft beer from 13 local breweries, including Deep Ellum Brewing Company, Tupps Brewery, and Franconia Brewing Company. Custom TEXFest beer glasses will be on sale for $10 (includes one beer), so attendees can enjoy responsibly and in style.

Guests will also have a chance to put their cowboy skills to the test by taking a ride on a mechanical bull and capture the celebration by taking a photo with a live longhorn steer.

A social media contest will give attendees the chance to win their very own cowboy hat. The first person to find the hidden “silver star” at the event, post it on Facebook, and share the post to the Historic Downtown Carrollton Facebook page will win the hat.

Event sponsors to date include Dallas Medical Center and The Ticket Sports Radio.
