Celebrate National Library Week April 8-14 at the Carrollton Public Library
The Carrollton Public Library will join in National Library Week held April 8-14 to celebrate the many ways libraries lead their communities through transformative services, programs, and expertise.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the first National Library Week event, and the Carrollton Public Library is giving citizens multiple ways to celebrate.
“National Library Week is a great time to showcase what Libraries do for communities,” said Rachel Young, Josey Ranch Lake Library Branch Manager. “In Carrollton, we strive to provide meaningful content and events for our citizens and will be highlighting how your Library works for you. Whether you’re interested in learning something new, attending a fun event for any age, or simply enjoying a new or beloved read, we work to provide these opportunities for you.”
Kick off the week of festivities by joining the Friends of the Carrollton Public Library for a naming ceremony of the Library’s new book statue and become a member of the Friends to stay for a special preview of the Spring Book Sale. The fun begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11 at Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road). Name entries for the statue will be accepted through Thursday, March 15 at either Library location and on the Carrollton Public Library Facebook and Twitter pages. The top five names will be announced on Facebook and Twitter for voting, and then the winning name will be unveiled at the ceremony. Light refreshments will be served.
The book sale will continue on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Stop by Josey Ranch Lake Library to shop donated books, movies, and music for adults and children. All proceeds benefit the Friends in their mission to support library programming and events for kids, tweens, teens, and adults. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted.
The Library will also host a National Library Week Open House on Thursday, April 12 from 12-4 p.m. at Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane). Come out to discover the many services and resources offered to residents.
Children can take part in the fun and celebration as well by entering the National Library Week bookmark contest. Kids can create a bookmark showcasing why they love libraries, reading, and books, and then submit their entry at either Library anytime between Sunday, April 8 and Saturday, April 14. Winners from each age group (4-12,13-18) will receive a prize, and their bookmarks will be reproduced and distributed at both Libraries. Entry forms are now available at both Libraries and online at cityofcarrollton.com/library.
