Starting-Your-Own-Business-imageThe Carrollton Public Library is offering free classes for starting and financing your own business, and for learning about the software options available for accounting in small businesses.

“A good idea is only an idea until you work to make it a reality,” said Rachel Young, Josey Ranch Lake Library Branch Manager. “While we can’t supply the idea for your business, the Carrollton Public Library works to provide resources and education to anyone who needs information on starting, financing, and managing their small business.”

Three classes will address the ins and outs of business structures, increasing revenue, and keeping records. Starting Your Own Business will be on Monday, September 17 from 7-8 p.m. at Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane). Financing Your Own Business will be at Hebron & Josey Library Monday, September 24 from 7-8 p.m, and Small Business Accounting 101 will be Monday, October 1 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road). No registration is required.

This class will include information about the business filing requirements at the federal and state level, as well as information about capital infusion.

FINANCING YOUR OWN BUSINESS – Monday, Sept. 24

The business is up and running and registered, but don’t know how to keep it open? This class will feature accounting and tax-related record-keeping to comply with state and federal government requirements. SMALL BUSINESS ACCOUNTING 101 – Monday, Oct. 1

7-8:30 p.m. at Josey Ranch Lake Library

Whether starting a business or balancing the company bank account, this class will explain the different software solutions on the market for small business accounting that can save time and make complex tasks simple to perform. The class will touch on cloud-based packages, such as QuickBooks Online, Wave Accounting (free), Xero, and Zoho Books versus software packages such as Quicken Home & Business and Sage 50, and address how to decide among them.

“The Carrollton Public Library continues to look for new and exciting ways to broaden the education of patrons young and old,” said Jonathan Scheu, Director of the Carrollton Public Library. “Starting and Financing Your Own Business are program offerings aimed at new or aspiring entrepreneurs. If you have a great idea for a new business and can’t wait to expand it past that old desk in the garage, Carrollton hopes these programs will help launch your venture to that next phase.”
