Carrollton Holds Fall Family Campout at R.E. Good Soccer Complex
Join us for a night beneath the stars at the City of Carrollton’s Fall Family Campout at R.E. Good Soccer Complex (2355 Sandy Lake Road). Campgrounds open at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 6.
Campers are encouraged to set up camp quickly so everyone can enjoy the fun and games.
Sign up when the gates open and enjoy a guided hike through the Elm Fork Nature Preserve (EFNP). The first hike will be a story time hike for ages 2-8. Parents must accompany their children on the trail. The little ones will listen to a reading of the book “Where the Wild Things Are” as they hunt for wild things on the trail. The second hike, for ages 9 and up, will be more traditional and kids will learn about nocturnal animals in the EFNP. Signup is on a first-come, first-served basis. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Participants may bring sports balls, games, etc. to play with while at the campsite, in addition to the yard games that will be set up including cornhole and ladder golf. Bikes, scooters, skates (non-motorized only), and dogs on a leash are welcome.
Dinner will be hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken tacos. A bonfire will be available for toasting marshmallows and making s’mores, and a screening of Space Jam (1996), PG will start at sunset. The film combines live action with animation as Bugs Bunny and his Looney Tunes friends seek the help of basketball champion Michael Jordan to help win an intergalactic basketball game against an invasion team of despicable aliens.
Breakfast will be provided in the morning as everyone breaks camp. Campsites must be clear by 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Participants must bring their own camping equipment. Registration is required. Onsite registration is available from 3 p.m. until dark. The cost is $10 per camper or $8 per person for Saturday only (dinner and movie).
This event is a great opportunity to experience the outdoors without having to leave the city. Families can enjoy the campout experience with a nature hike, s’mores by the fire, sleeping in a tent under the stars, and still have the added comfort of a provided meal, restrooms, and a great movie for the whole family. The Fall Family Campout has been a big hit in the past, so the Carrollton Parks & Recreation Department has provided an opportunity for the camp fun to continue! For more information, call 972-466-9816 or visit cityofcarrollton.com/events.
