UPDATE: Republic Services Acquires the City of Carrollton’s Solid Waste Contract
UPDATE 10/02/2020: New Household Hazardous Waste Contact Number
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) pickups can now be scheduled by calling 817-317-2000 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or emailing CarrolltonHHW@republicservices.com. A collection kit will be mailed containing a confirmation letter with a scheduled pickup date, bags for disposal, labels to identify each bag of items, and instructions. On collection day, materials should be placed on the front porch where they are visible from the street. Collection items must not be placed at the curb. Republic Services personnel will arrive on the scheduled day between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to collect the packaged HHW items.
As a reminder, City ordinance requires residential waste to be placed at the collection location designated by the City (alley or street) no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before and no later than 6:30 a.m. collection day. Containers must not block or impede a street or alley right-of-way, water or gas meter, drainage ditch, or sight triangle at an intersection or sidewalk. Improperly placed or blocked waste will not be collected. Containers must be removed from the alley or street no later than 9 a.m. the day following collection. Residents who do not remove containers after collection are violating City ordinances.
In an effort to continue to serve the citizens of Carrollton who utilize the City’s solid waste services and adapt to the ever-changing needs of the community, the City has made two new self-service forms available to residents online. The first is to report a missed collection, the other is to report an issue with a container.
Bulk items, brush, trash, and/or recycling that has not been picked up by 7 p.m. on the day of collection, can be reported by filling out the missed collection form at cityofcarrollton.com/departments/departments-q-z/trash-recycling/missed-collection-form.
Residents may request an additional green (trash) or blue (recycling) container be dropped at their location. Additional recycling containers are supplied to residents free of charge, but additional trash containers will cost $8.50 per month for a minimum 6-month commitment. A request can also be made to remove a container from the property if no longer needed. Containers with broken lids, missing wheels, cracked bodies, etc. will be replaced free of charge upon request. 12/3/2018: Republic Services Acquires the City of Carrollton’s Solid Waste Contract
The City of Carrollton’s solid waste and recycling contract with Waste Management was purchased by Republic Services, the second largest solid waste management provider in the United States according to the Fortune 500 list of top companies.
The agreement was signed on Saturday, December 1. Collection by Republic begins Monday, December 3 and residents will follow the same trash and recycling collection schedule.
“We’re excited to expand our footprint in the Carrollton area, as we continue to deliver on our growth through differentiation strategy,” a company spokesperson said. “Customers can expect a seamless transition, exceptional waste and recycling services, and an effortless experience,”
Laurie Garber, Administrative Services Director, said the City’s current contract with Waste Management is in effect until September 30, 2020 and Republic will assume that responsibility through the end of the contract.
“The City can expect business as usual,” said Garber. “Most of the drivers, dispatchers, and other staff from Waste Management were retained by Republic. Residents will be able to use their current carts for trash and recycling efforts, landfill access is not changing, and the routes are expected to remain the same.”
Residents may see Waste Management trucks on their route, but Republic will be rebranding the trucks in a phased approach over the coming year.
Collections normally scheduled for Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Thanksgiving Day holidays will continue to be picked up the following day, and collections for remaining days will be delayed by one day through Saturday. Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) pickups will continue to be handled by Waste Management’s At Your Door collection service online at wmatyourdoor.com or by calling 1-800-HHW-PKUP (1-800-449-7587) Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
