Post Date:11/13/2019 4:11 PM

Christmas-2019-imageThe City of Carrollton has a full lineup of holiday fun and invites all residents to come enjoy the sights and sounds of the season. Activities start early with Photos with Santa at the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum, run right along with Santa on the Square and the Kids’ Dash in Downtown, and wrap up with festive activities at the Carrollton Public Library including the annual Harry Potter-themed Yule Ball.

Photo opportunities abound and the fun won’t stop until the kiddos head back to the classroom in January. Then, don’t miss the Winter Reading Challenge for all ages beginning Wednesday, January 1. See the complete list of activities below; and, kids, remember to send your letters to the North Pole. Santa placed a mailbox in Downtown Carrollton through Saturday, December 7 to make sure he receives your requests.

Photos with Santa – Start the season off right by taking a few snaps with Santa on Saturday, November 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum (1509 N. Perry Road). These family memories are guaranteed to last the whole year. Photos are taken by a professional photographer. The $20 fee per family (up to four people) includes one digital photo. Additional photos will be available for order. There also will be hands-on activities, crafts, and refreshments. Registration is required and will be accepted on the day of the event.

An Old-Fashioned Christmas – A timeless tradition in Carrollton, this popular, free celebration sees everything from Victorian carolers, Santa Claus, arts and crafts, and a petting zoo. Bring the family out for a fun night to welcome the season on Friday, December 6 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum (1509 N. Perry Road). Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. Free informal tours of the historic 1909 home in all its festive decorations will be given throughout the evening and Mrs. Claus will be reading stories on the back porch.

Santa on the Square & Kids’ Dash – Grab your stockings and Santa hat for a fun and festive run that will have the little ones laughing with glee as they run around the Square on Saturday, December 7. The dash is open to participants ages 12 and under. Register online at by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, November 30 to receive the $12 rate; the price goes up to $15 on race day. Dash check-in is from 9:30-10:15 a.m. and the run starts at 10:30 a.m. Stick around for our FREE event from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. which includes a free photo with Santa inside the Gazebo, a photo inside a 15-foot inflatable snow globe, crafts, food, and lots of festive fun. Preregistration is not required for photo ops.

Brookhaven Bell Choir Concert – Everyone's favorite ringers will be performing at the Carrollton Senior Center (1720 Keller Springs Road) on Sunday, December 8 at 3 p.m. Enjoy a free Library-sponsored concert of holiday favorites, old and new, presented by the Brookhaven College Handbell Choir, under the direction of Bonnie Riddle and Estelle Wiese. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

Winter Wonderland – Got some little ones who aren’t in school yet? Stop by Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane) on Wednesday, December 11 from 10-11 a.m. to read stories with Mrs. Claus, enjoy some milk and cookies, and meet Santa!

Carrollton Wind Symphony Holiday Concert – The Carrollton Wind Symphony will present a holiday concert on Friday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m. Make the season merry with this free concert at Creekview High School (3201 Old Denton Road). In addition to the festive Yule Ball, complete with dancing and music, there will be Harry Potter-themed crafts, activities, trivia, and a photo booth. Dressing up is highly encouraged.

Winter Reading Challenge – Readers of all ages can engage in a new reading challenge during those slow winter months when a good book can mean taking part in an adventure without leaving the comfort of a cozy chair. Participants will be divided into age groups; a small prize will be given for completing goals; and entries will be given for one drawing per age-group at the end of the challenge. The challenge runs from Wednesday, January 1 through Sunday, March 1. Register at beginning Sunday, December 1.
