Post Date:01/24/2020 11:56 AM
Festival at the Switchyard IFEA AwardsThe City of Carrollton’s Marketing Services Department recently received four awards from the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) for the promotion of the City’s signature event, the Festival at the Switchyard, bringing the total number of awards received in 2019 for the Festival to 10.

The IFEA Pinnacle Awards recognize top festivals and events from across the country and world.

The creative design of the 2018 Festival at the Switchyard artwork, which incorporated train and microphone elements, resulted in two Silver awards for Best Promotional Poster and Best Ad Series. The poster and flyer design served as the basis for the rest of the print and digital marketing materials used to advertise the event across a variety of platforms.

The 2018 Festival promotional video, which has been viewed more than 52,000 times, earned a Bronze award in the category of Best Event Video Promotion. The City also received a Bronze award in the category of Best Event Program for its Festival program, which included everything from a site map and list of participating vendors, to the entertainment lineup and band bios, to information about other upcoming City events.

“The IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards Competition recognizes the outstanding accomplishments and top quality creative, promotional, operational, and community outreach programs and materials produced by festivals and events around the world,” IFEA President and CEO Steven Wood Schmader said.

The 9th annual Festival at the Switchyard brought more than 40,000 people to Historic Downtown Carrollton for free concerts featuring internationally-known artists Stone Temple Pilots, Tonic, and Vertical Horizon, free rides and games, free children’s entertainment and activities, delicious food, a beer garden, and unique shopping opportunities.

“We work hard to communicate all of Carrollton’s initiatives and are proud to have been recognized by several prestigious organizations including IFEA for our promotion of the Festival at the Switchyard,” Marketing Director Kelli Lewis said. “All City departments contribute to the success of the City’s signature event, which provides free family fun for our citizens and has drawn hundreds of thousands of attendees to our Downtown Square over the past 10 years, introducing them to the phenomenal businesses, amenities, and unique characteristics that Carrollton has to offer.”

In 2019, the City also received two first place awards in the categories of Best Flyer/Poster and Best Recurring Special Event from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers; two first place awards in both the Graphic Design and Poster categories from the National Association of Government Communicators; and both a first place award in the category of Graphic Design – Other Marketing Tools and an Award of Excellence in the category of Marketing and Tools – Best Use of a Promotional Item from the City-County Communications & Marketing Association for its promotion of the Festival.

The 10th annual Festival at the Switchyard was held on November 2, 2019 and drew more than 30,000 people to Downtown Carrollton with performances featuring Tripping Daisy and the Old 97’s. The 11th annual Festival will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020. The full entertainment lineup will be announced this summer.
