Carrollton Holds Free Saturdays on the Square Events in Downtown

SOTS-imageSummerVisit the Historic Downtown Carrollton Square (1106 S. Broadway Street) every second Saturday of the month starting in March for music, movies, and fun activities. Come early and grab a bite to eat from one of the many eclectic restaurants lining the Square and explore the unique shops and boutiques.

Karaoke Night, March 14, 6-8 p.m.
It’s your time to show off your skills on the Downtown Gazebo stage. Pick a song, grab the mic, and let the music do the rest for a fun evening of hit tunes.

Dog Movie Night, April 11, Sunset
Find out what the pets are doing back home when their owners head to work with a showing of The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019), PG. Watch along as Max the terrier encounters canine-intolerant cows, hostile foxes, and a scary turkey when he visits the countryside. Luckily for Max, he soon catches a break when he meets Rooster, a gruff farm dog who tries to cure the lovable pooch of his neuroses.

Bring you pup and get to the movie early to visit with Carrollton Animal Services & Adoption Center staff for information on how to keep your pets healthy and safe. Free pet registrations, free microchipping for the first 100 animals, and vaccinations starting at $5 will be available. Don’t forget your lawn chairs and blankets for the movie.

Mother’s Day Concert and Picnic, May 9, 5-7 p.m.
Pearl Perry Gravley Park on the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum Grounds

Saturdays on the Square (SOTS) will be celebrating Mother’s Day with family and friends on the beautiful A.W. Perry Homestead Museum grounds (1509 N. Perry Road). Bring a picnic basket, blankets, and lawn chairs and enjoy music from the New Horizons Dixie Swing Band as they play from the front porch of the historic home. Free ice cream and lemonade will be served. Children can make a card for mom and take part in a craft.

World of Foodies, June 13,  3-9 p.m.
Join the City of Carrollton for a tasty adventure for lovers of all things appetizing in Historic Downtown Carrollton at the second annual World of Foodies fest. Celebrate multiple cultures while enjoying authentic international refreshments and listen to live performances. The event is free to attend. For the best deal on a variety of pre-selected food and drink samples, purchase a “Foodie Passport” prior to the event at cityofcarrollton.com/downtown.

Christmas in July, July 11, 6-8 p.m.
Stay cool with SOTS Christmas in July. Attendees are invited to take a photo in a giant snow globe decked out in a summer theme and engage in some crafting activities. The backdrop is sure to make your funniest Christmas card yet. While Downtown, enjoy dinner and shopping from one of the many shops or restaurants located around the Square.

Painting Class, August 8, 6-8 p.m.
Join fellow creatives for a free painting class on the Downtown Carrollton Square. Materials will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. All skill levels are welcome, so it doesn’t matter if you’re a Rembrandt or more of a finger painter.

Movie Night, September 12, Sunset
Bring the whole family to Downtown Carrollton for the live action, epic drama of Mulan (2020), PG. The film is based on the Chinese folklore “The Ballad of Mulan” where the eldest daughter of an aging, honored warrior disguises herself as a man and sets out to serve in her father’s place in the Imperial Chinese Army. Watch as Mulan learns how to defend the country against an invading army, embrace her true potential, and make her family proud. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for the movie.

Live Country Music, October 10, 5-7 p.m.
Listen to a live country western band for an evening of music under the stars on the Downtown Carrollton Square. Don’t forget your lawn chairs and blankets for the concert.

Cocoa for Coats, November 14, 5-7 p.m.
Let the holiday spirit warm you with Cocoa for Coats. Bring your lightly worn coats, jackets, and winter garments to the Square and swap them for a delicious cup of cocoa. Coats will be donated to Metrocrest Services.

Christmas Tunes & Gift Wrapping, December 12, 5-7 p.m.
Sing along to live performances of holiday tunes and wrap Christmas presents. Gift-wrapping supplies will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
