Volunteer to Adopt a Carrollton Waterway or Channel Area for Cleanup

Post Date:05/15/2019 6:29 PM

Adopt-A-Spot-imageThe City of Carrollton is seeking volunteers to help reduce litter and keep the community beautiful through two volunteer programs, Adopt-A-Spot and the Waterway Cleanup Project.

Both programs are ideal community service projects for residents, groups, schools, and businesses to remove trash from waterways and other City-owned locations while providing team building exercises and educational activities.

The Adopt-A-Spot program is a quarterly volunteer effort that involves citizens in maintaining and improving the environment. It requires a signed two-year commitment to clean the designated area at least once a quarter. The adoptable spots include creeks, greenbelts, parks, and other areas as long as they are owned and maintained by the City of Carrollton. Adopters select their dates and hours to work. The program is open to all groups and interested individuals.

The City will place two signs with the adopting group’s name to mark the beginning and the end of the adopted areas and will provide volunteers with trash bags, trash grabbers, and gloves to complete the cleanup. The Carrollton Parks & Recreation Department will remove the trash bags the next business day.

The Waterway Cleanup Project is typically a one-time or short-term activity to beautify the community while removing unwanted litter from creeks and parks. Groups can volunteer as many times as they would like without the frequency requirements of the Adopt-A-Spot program. The City will provide volunteers with trash bags, trash grabbers, and gloves, and Parks & Recreation will remove the trash bags the next business day. Both programs are appropriate for all ages and can function as great service projects.

A list and map of areas available for adoption will be provided to interested parties.
