Carrollton Library Plans Tiny Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Play Kitchen
The Carrollton Public Library will hold a tiny ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, June 11 at 10 a.m. for a play kitchen at Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road).
“One of the goals of the Carrollton Public Library is to assist families in preparing their children for school,” Library Director Jonathan Scheu said. “Dramatic play experiences such as play kitchens are one piece of the puzzle for developing a child’s creativity and imagination by acting out real-world situations.”
The play kitchen was made possible by a $1,000 Walmart Community Grant given to the Carrollton Public Library by the Walmart Foundation. The kitchen includes a play oven, sink, refrigerator, and cupboard with cups, plates, silverware, pots and pans, a play cookie-baking set, and a variety of play food items. There is also a towel and scrubber for play cleanup and a large cookie jar to place the play cookies post baking. The kitchen will be located in Josey Ranch Lake Library’s Kids Place preschool area.
“The Carrollton Public Library is thrilled that the Walmart Foundation chose to fund this purchase,” Scheu said. “This gift enables the Library to expand its opportunities of meaningful and intentional play experiences for children and their families. The community needs more ways to allow children to explore their natural curiosity and creativity.”
All ages are welcome to attend this free event. Come early for the ceremony and stay from 10:15-10:35 a.m. for the Library’s early literacy class, Libros y Amigos/Books and Friends where children age birth to 5 years old and older participate in stories, songs, fingerplays, action rhymes, and movement in Spanish and English. Everyone is welcome, whether you know Spanish or would like to learn. For more information on the Carrollton Public Library, visit cityofcarrollton.com/library.
