Carrollton Expands Access to Volunteer Opportunities
The City of Carrollton has partnered with JustServe.org to provide residents with another tool for engaging with the City on community volunteer projects. Whether future volunteers have one hour a week to give or want to bring the entire family for a whole day, JustServe.org is the website to visit for all types of volunteer opportunities in the Carrollton community.
The free service allows potential volunteers to look for projects in their areas of interest, whether it be volunteering at a City event, a local Parks & Recreation center, at either Library location, or one of the City’s many facilities. Volunteering for a date-specific project requires a one-time registration process. A confirmation for the event will be sent to the volunteer and can easily be added to an online calendar. On the day of the event, show up and just serve. It’s that easy.
Ongoing opportunities with the City of Carrollton have a convenient drop-down calendar, giving individuals and groups a chance to indicate the date of their earliest availability and a 200-character text box to specify preferred times and days of the week they can volunteer. A representative from the City will confirm details and establish the time and place to appear. A few hours a week and a willingness to help can make a big impact.
Sign up to start making a difference in the community and get email notifications when new projects are posted in the area. Almost all City departments need volunteers, but some of Carrollton’s most popular departments are Parks & Recreation which includes Downtown Carrollton special events, the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum, and the Senior Center; Library locations; Animal Services; and Environmental Quality. All projects and ongoing activities are listed with details and contact information.
Residents can also download the JustServe app on their phones and access the main features of the website to find volunteer opportunities while on-the-go. The app can link to the phone’s location services, easily add opportunities and locations to the calendar and map features, making volunteering in the community easier than ever. Search opportunities are based on current account location, current physical location, or by inputting the desired work location. Potential volunteers can read success stories from past volunteering projects and share their own.
Opportunities can also be searched by project attributes including suitable for all ages, group projects, in-home participation, items to donate, wheelchair accessible, and indoor activities; by skills needed including accounting, American Sign Language, animal shelter, computer literacy; and interests such as arts & entertainment, education, environment, health & fitness, homeless & hunger, seniors, veterans & military, etc.
Projects on JustServe are posted by faith-based, nonprofit, community, and government organizations, and will not have a political or advocacy focus, be for-profit oriented, or directly involve volunteers in fundraising or engage in any activities prohibited in the website’s guidelines.
The app is available in the App Store and on Google Play.
