Shinyribs and Emerald City Band Join 10th Annual Festival at the Switchyard Lineup

Post Date:06/19/2019 3:04 PM
Shinyribs & Emerald City Band-01Country-soul, swamp-funk band Shinyribs and high energy cover band Emerald City Band will return to the Festival at the Switchyard stage on Saturday, November 2 in Historic Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway Street) alongside headliners Tripping Daisy and the Old 97’s.

Shinyribs performed at the 2016 Festival alongside Barenaked Ladies, and Emerald City Band shared the 2017 Festival stage with The Toadies and Everclear. Both bands were huge hits among Festival attendees, and the City of Carrollton is excited to welcome them back in celebration of the Festival’s 10th anniversary.

Shinyribs formed in 2007 as a solo side project of its lead singer, Kevin Russell, and evolved into what is now an eight-piece band that has since released four albums: Well After Awhile (2010), Gulf Coast Museum (2013), Okra Candy (2015), and I Got Your Medicine (2017).

The group’s songs like “Poor People’s Store,” “Song of Lime Juice and Despair,” and “Trouble, Trouble,” create a blend of Texas blues, New Orleans R&B funk, horn-driven Memphis soul, country twang, border music, big band swing, roots-rock, Tin Pan Alley, and even punk into a raucous mix. Russell says he can’t imagine playing just one style of music.

“I love mashing things together you wouldn’t expect, like a donut taco,” Russell said. “You can be whoever you want to be at a Shinyribs show. That’s what I’m trying to convey with my music and the performance.”

Before Shinyribs takes the stage, Emerald City Band will bring its one-of-a-kind party experience that’s sure to have Festivalgoers dancing and singing along. The 13-piece band, complete with a three-piece horn section, is known for its electrifying performances of high energy dance songs from the past and hits of today, often covering Pitbull, Tina Turner, and Michael Jackson all in one show.

The Dallas Morning News, D Magazine, and Knot Magazine have voted Emerald City Band as “Entertainers of the Year.” The group has shared the stage with artists such as Martina McBride, Huey Lewis, Justin Timberlake, Garth Brooks, and Mariah Carey and has served as the wedding band for several celebrities including Dallas Cowboys Hall-of-Famer Emmitt Smith, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, and most recently Real Housewives of Dallas star LeeAnne Locken.

2019 Festival PosterIn addition to free concerts, the award-winning Festival at the Switchyard features free live children’s entertainment, free rides and games, free face painting and balloon art, a beer garden, and an array of food vendors and Festival booths to shop from.
