Carrollton’s Summer Reading Program (SRP) will run Monday, June 1 through Saturday, August 1 and include age-specific programs for listeners (birth-4), kids (5-8), tweens (9-12), teens (13-17), and adults (18+). Register yourself and your children at cityofcarrollton.com/READsquared — usernames from last year are still valid. Track reading minutes online or ask about physical reading logs to record books and minutes. Get rewarded for summer reading fun.
"The Carrollton Public Library is excited to offer this year's Summer Reading Program," Jonathan Scheu, Carrollton Public Library Director, said. "The Library remains committed to offering high quality services for our patrons during these unprecedented times, and this online program makes it easier than ever for children and adults to track books and minutes from wherever they are. Everyone in Carrollton can read with us this summer."
Read books. Earn points. Win prizes. Participants may earn points that will be used for purchasing drawing tickets for prize packs or purchasing items from the Prize Store. Earn one point for every one minute read. Earn 100 points and receive one drawing ticket. A Library card is not required, however, it is encouraged and free for all Texas residents. Specialized programs include age-appropriate prizes and all ages are welcomed to participate.
Earn prizes by logging minutes read and attaining each reading level. Completing a level earns another age-appropriate prize. Readers who complete Level 5 automatically earn entry into the Grand Prize drawing. In order to complete the five main levels, readers must log 20 hours over the course of June and July (or approximately 20 minutes per day). Logging over 20 hours will move participants toward the Super Levels where they can earn up to two additional prize books. This year's program also includes bingo card and scratch-off ticket offerings. Complete activities on the bingo card and earn scratch-off tickets with additional prizes.
Prize packs include items such as a CuriosityStream subscription, a 3D Mega Art Kit, an OwlCrate subscription, a Crunchyroll membership, a Robot Ball, a Kindle 8 HD, a Funko Mystery Box, a STEM kit, a science experiment kit, a musical instrument set, and more. Visit the store at cityofcarrollton.com/READsquared to see what’s included in each pack. Items in Prize Packs vary by age category and the Prize Store is available for ages 17 and under only.
