Barefoot Nation, King Zero, and Thunder Road to Kick Off 10th Annual Festival at the Switchyard

Post Date:07/09/2019 4:27 PM
Barefoot Nation, King Zero, Thunder Road-01Kenny Chesney cover band Barefoot Nation, Dallas-based rock band King Zero, and Carrollton’s own Thunder Road, a Tribute to Bruce Springsteen, will kick off the 10th annual Festival at the Switchyard on Saturday, November 2 in Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway Street).

Barefoot Nation will pay tribute to country great Kenny Chesney with classics like “When the Sun Goes Down,” “There Goes My Life,” and “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem.” Barefoot Nation has performed and sold out shows at several popular Dallas-area venues, such as the House of Blues, Lava Cantina, and Gas Monkey Bar and Grill.

Before Barefoot Nation takes the stage, five-piece rock band King Zero will warm up the crowd with original songs like “Black Stoned Heart,” “In Your Eyes,” and “Into the Light” from their 2018 EP Sonic. King Zero’s music blends a diverse musical background into their unique alternative sound, standing apart from both candy sweet pop-rock and ear-splitting heavy metal. King Zero was a big hit at the seventh annual Festival in 2016, and the City of Carrollton is excited to welcome them back.

Thunder Road will pay tribute to Bruce Springsteen to kick off the day. The seven-piece, Carrollton-based band will play Springsteen favorites such as “Born in the USA,” “Dancing in the Dark,” and “Hungry Heart.” Thunder Road last played at the 2014 Festival, and the City is looking forward to their return in celebration of the 10th annual event.

Previously announced country-soul, swamp-funk band Shinyribs, high-energy group Emerald City Band, Matchbox Twenty tribute band Matchbook 20, and Monica’s Bidi Bidi, a tribute to the Tejano Queen will also warm up the crowd for Festival headliners Tripping Daisy and the Old 97’s. A full Festival entertainment schedule, including children’s entertainment, set times, and the in-front-of-stage lineup, will be announced in the coming weeks.

In addition to free concerts, the award-winning Festival at the Switchyard features free live children’s entertainment, free rides and games, free face painting and balloon art, a beer garden, and an array of food vendors and Festival booths to shop from. The event is held on the streets of Downtown Carrollton, just off IH-35E and Belt Line Road, steps away from the Downtown Carrollton Station on the DART Green Line. Festivalgoers are highly encouraged to park at the North Carrollton/Frankford Station or Trinity Mills Station and ride the DART to the Festival site, as parking is extremely limited.

Festival sponsors to date include The Dallas Morning News, DFWChild Magazine, Republic Services, Suburban Parent Magazine, Texans Credit Union, and Western Extrusions. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the event, which hosted more than 40,000 patrons in 2018.
